This week we have celebrated Dr Seuss’s and Mem Fox’s Birthday (March 2 & March 5) and acknowledged World Wildlife Day (3 March).  It’s always fun to find out just how many things are celebrated around the world with their very own day.  I’m sure half the students don’t believe me with some of them, but it makes for fun to find the books that suit the theme for the week.

On February 25, the notable books were announced for this year’s Children Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Books of the Year awards. This is precursor to the awards announced in August.  Regarded as Australia’s most prestigious children’s literature award, the CBCA Book of the Year was established in 1946 and is now presented in six categories: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Early Childhood, Picture Book, Eve Pownall Award and CBCA Award for New Illustrator. Book Club No. 2

Book Club No. 2 has been handed out in the last week or so.
