Year 7 History

In Year 7 history students have been focusing on different sources of information (primary and secondary) and how historians use these sources to predict or create hypotheses regarding events or what artifacts may have been used for. An archaeologist for a lesson - students were provided with ‘bags of artifacts’ and were required to search through the contents of these bags and make predictions about the origins  of the items and then make links about possible uses and occupations.

THE MYSTERY ARTIFACT COMPETITION

Students were encouraged to examine the artifact from the 1940s and guess what it was used for. Congratulations to all students who participated in this activity. Some of the suggested uses included cleaning spider webs, a giant tooth brush and for cleaning chimneys. Well done to Talia Ware of 7B and Eve Burt of 7C for identifying the correct use – a piece of equipment used to put out bush fires. In fact it is called a ‘beater’. All students who participated received an edible treat and Talia and Eve were rewarded with a voucher for use at the school canteen!

YEAR 7 FUN DAY

On Friday 9th February our Year 7’s took over Healesville Sanctuary for their Fun Day! Students had the opportunity to walk around The Sanctuary to visit all their favourite animals with their friends while answering a series of interesting questions. These were aimed at challenging the students to explore our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Relationships and Teamwork and how these are displayed in the animal world.

There were a lot of laughs throughout the day, especially during the Birds of Prey show! Students were also treated to a special boomerang display towards the end of the day! The day was very successful with many new friendships formed, and a building of positive relationships between the students and their teachers.
