Year 12

YEAR 12 TEAM BUILDING DAY

The final year of secondary schooling is demanding by anyone’s standards. VCE students must manage the additional workload, organise their weekly schedules to ensure a minimum of three hours is devoted to study in each of their subjects, prepare for SACs and also find time for other commitments.

In order to assist our students in meeting these challenges we recently ran a Team Building Day that focussed on many of the elements concerned, including organisation, study skills, supporting each other, managing anxiety, ensuring adequate sleep is achieved and planning for their futures.

We are very grateful to Healesville RSL for providing an excellent venue and catering for the day superbly.   We’d also like to thank the various presenters. ‘Elevate’ is a company that runs sessions designed to motivate students and empower them to be successful. The speakers are recent VCE graduates who achieved highly, making them very relatable. Mrs. Mitchell ran an engaging session that encouraged students to see themselves as a team by developing potential hashtags for the 2018 cohort. She also provided anecdotal information about a number of highly successful students from her time at Healesville High School. Ms. Scotchmoor and Lisa Mathieson ran a session that focussed on stress management and relaxation, including a number of practical exercises that students could perform at home. Ms. Shelley ensured that students were aware of the assistance available to them in planning their futures and provided them with material that they could review in their own time. Finally, Mr. Morison engaged students in a number of        light-hearted team building activities to conclude the day. We also wish to acknowledge the contribution of Daniel Glenn, who provided technical support and took photographs.

This was a very successful day that we hope will empower students to excel in their final year.

Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies

The Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class visited the Mornington Peninsula last week. We went to the Point Nepean National Park to see the Quarantine Station and Fort Nepean. The highlight of the trip was our snorkeling at Popes Eye and the fur seal colony in the bay.

A Partnership

Year 12 Health and Human Development

The morning sun had barely risen over the Eastern Ranges as the VCE Health and Human Development class of 2018 assembled on Platform 1 at Lilydale Station. Myki cards were distributed, seats taken, and we were off to the city for the much anticipated Unit 3 Flying Start Program held at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Over three stimulating and informative hours, the author of our textbook outlined the key course components and provided insights into what is required to perform well in this challenging subject.

One clear message from the day, was the necessity for teacher, students and parents working as a team to ensure optimal results at the year’s end.
