Students in Year 7 English have been studying creative writing, with a focus on using specific verbs and powerful adjectives to improve their ability to write descriptively. Currently, Year 7 students are in the middle of writing their first Common Assessment Task, a narrative belonging to the fantasy genre. The Discovery- by Jim Secretan

It was a sunny day. The tall palm trees swayed in the warm, tropical breeze and the emerald green water was so clear you could see the fish beneath.

As I walked along the sandy beach, my toe stubbed on something embedded in the sand. A green gem! Bright and shiny! Where did it come from? How did it get there?

I bent down to pick it up and suddenly I saw an old ship in the distance. It was battered and rested in a rocky cover beneath tall cliffs.

Maybe there was more treasure to find……….

The End- by Zoe Boundy

Suzi woke on Friday and felt it was going to be an unusual day. She looked out the window and saw the colours turning different colours. The clouds were murky and suspicious, they were a rusty brown and it smelt like burning rubber. Suzi felt scared and ran to find her family, but no one was home. She was looking for her best friend, her pet bird, Larry, who was nowhere to be found. It was deathly quiet in the neighbourhood and she saw people wearing strange masks. She had no clue who they were. She suddenly felt very alone.

The City- by Nikyra Beaumont

The city was dark and cold. There was no one to be seen except for you in the reflection of mirrors and windows. You walk around the cold, deserted town, looking for something or somebody, anything to tell you what has happened. The sky is dark and filled with red and grey mist, floating around the whole town. You sit there, not knowing what to do. Then you hear it, slight whispers from a child, coming from the remains of a building.

You enter the building and whisper quietly, “Hello, anyone here?”

And then it hits you. You’re dead.

The Frozen Eye- by Jennifer Watson

In an outcast village there lived an ordinary little girl, named Roxy Plumtiffle.

But not everything about her was ordinary. Her family was cursed by The Frozen Eye. This curse always missed a generation, but Roxy didn’t know about the curse.

“Sweetie, we need to tell her sooner or later!” said Roxy’s father.

“Shhh, keep your voice down,” whispered Roxy’s mother, “I know I need to tell her, but the thing is, it missed my generation, so it is her!”

Silence.

Poor Roxy never knew about the curse…

Paralysed- by Tamsin Mallick

As I investigated her eyes it sent shivers down my spine. It didn’t feel right to look at her after what she did to me. I will never forgive her. Why should I? She nearly killed me. And I thought of her as a friend. There I was, sitting right in front of her and I couldn’t do anything because she paralysed me. All I could do was look at her. And it killed me inside. All I wanted to do was punch her.

“Sweetheart, wake up, it’s school time,” …. Wait, was it all a dream? It can’t be.
