From the Principal...

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's,

Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God, Matt 4:4

This week, we celebrate the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday.  Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the Catholic liturgical calendar and is a season of fasting and prayer.

Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting.

Lent is the six week period leading up to Easter. The season is seen as a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.  Traditionally, Lent is a time for giving up something or doing good deeds for others. In doing good for others or giving something up we are invited to make our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus' life, death and resurrection.

At St Therese's our Social Justice leaders have been working with Mrs Hinds to distribute the Project Compassion boxes that are used to collect any loose change. The money collected will be given to St Vincent de Paul for the poor.

The day before Ash Wednesday is traditionally known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. Historically, Christians would use up their pantry items to prepare for the Lenten season of fasting and penance. This is where the idea of making pancakes came from.

I have included a video clip that you may like to view at home with your children about the meaning of Lent.

EASTER RAFFLE is coming

The Easter Raffle is on again. Later this week, your child will bring home a book of raffle tickets to sell. These need to be back at school by Thursday 19th March.

On Friday, 13th March, children are invited to wear Free Dress and bring along an easter egg which will be used for our raffle.

The raffle will be drawn on Monday 23rd March at the assembly at 3pm.

On Thursday, 27th February we will hold our annual whole school Athletics Carnival. All children will be bused to Casey Fields and take part in athletic events. Please ensure your child is dressed in their sports uniform and has a hat, lunch, drink bottle and sunscreen.

Permission to attend needs to be completed prior to the day.

Welcome BBQ & Disco

It was great to see so many families attend the Welcome BBQ and Disco. From the feedback that I received on the night, it seemed that parents and students alike enjoyed Mr. Sanchez's moves and the BBQ.

Please enjoy some of the photos of this School Community Event

Have a terrific week,
