Assistant Principal's Report
We have already reached the end of Week Four of Term Two. It certainly has been a very busy start to the term with public holidays, NAPLAN and other sports events and class excursions taking place.
ATTENDANCE
At every House assembly this year, we are celebrating student attendance. At a recent Merri assembly we celebrated that 91 Merri students had an attendance rate of 95% or above for the fortnight. We also compare each House attendance; Hopkins are currently on top of the House Attendance race with an overall attendance rate of 86.86 for all classes.
We strongly encourage families to discuss the importance of attending school as every day counts. We will continue to alert families to student absences via our Compass SMS process where families will receive an SMS at 10.00am if their child is absent for either Tutorial or Period 1. A very promising sign is that the total number of SMS being sent to families is dropping which relates to improved attendance. Another pleasant piece of data was the increase in the number of students being present at Tutorial. Our Tutorial system aims to provide students with a consistent beginning to the day where House tutors can develop meaningful relationships with the students to ensure they have a sense of belonging and can identify a staff member with WC they feel comfortable speaking to.
YEAR 10 CAMPS/WORK EXPERIENCE
We wish all our Year 10 students the best for their upcoming camps and work experience placements. Work experience provides an opportunity to dip their toe into the water of the real world of work. These experiences can shape a student’s future or can lead them to another future path; either way it is a worthwhile experience.
