Netball

Our teams were very competitive at the Inter-School Girls Junior Netball. We had 3 teams attend with both our Year 7 team and our Year 8 team making it to the Grand Final. They both played off against strong Emmanuel teams in two nail biters.

Our year 7's put out a great fight, but unfortunately went down by one goal.

Our year 8 match resulted in a draw and then in overtime, our girls dominated and won the match!

Well done to all the girls who participated so positively and thank you to our coaches for the day.

Year 7 Football

On Wednesday 8th May our Year 7 football team played and won all 3 games against Emmanuel and Brauer College. We were superbly led by our leaders; Jesse Suter, Jaiden Wells, Archie Parsons, Wil Rantall, Ryan Lucas and Jyah Chatfield across the entire day. Many of the college key values were on full display, with all students demonstrating; courage, resilience and mutual respect when facing our opponents. Our 3 Year 10 Assistant Coaches in; Matthew Bradley, Lochie Worden and Rhys Buck further encouraged, supported and role modelled these values to our Year 7 group.

Numerous students excelled across the matches. For detailed match results, best players and goal kickers see below – along with a few photos from the day.

Well done to all players and Year 10 coaches on your efforts. Due to the success of winning all 3 games played – the Year 7 Football Team will now progress to a regional final on Tuesday 16th July to be held in Ballarat. The college is tremendously proud of your achievement.

Year 8 Football

The weather didn’t turn up for us last Wednesday but that didn’t deter the spirits of the boys as they set their sights on progressing through to the next stage. Unfortunately we lost Zade Matheson to injury early in the first game, the team wishes Zade all the best in his recovery. The boys banded together to put in a reasonable performance in our loss to Emmanuel Blue, where we learnt the importance of stretching the opposition out, rather than all just floating to the ball making it easier for them to zone off.

Game 2 saw us up against Emmanuel White, where we played a much better game style, and the boys' awareness of the rotation system improved. There were plenty of rotations, with 30 players on the day. Marcus Matuschka performed well on ball, and Jackson Sobey proved to be a rock in defence.

In the final game, Ryan Malone who was carrying a slight injury was moved out of the middle allowing Jackson Van Ginneken an opportunity for some time on the ball. Jackson did not let us down and we went on to win the game against Brauer by a considerable margin.

I’d like to thank Noah Dowie and Mason Ward for being runners all day, I wouldn’t have managed without them, as 30 players required the bench to be changed regularly. They also relayed important messages to the boys at some key points during our games.

A confidence booster against Brauer and some lucky scheduling allowed us to move forward to the next stage. There will be some training sessions between now and then (date yet unconfirmed,) where we will refine our game plan, role allocation and work rate expectations. There is competition for spots, with some injured player names presenting themselves for selection, and the team will need to be cut back to 25. I look forward to continuing the good momentum we built at the Mack Oval at a higher level. Well done boys, stay posted on Compass for the training dates.

Table Tennis

When our Warrnambool College students arrived at the Table Tennis stadium, for the Warrnambool Division Table Tennis 2019, they joined an excited and noisy group of students from Brauer and Emmanuel Colleges who were all eager to begin the tournament.  Once the draw was posted onto the pin board and the Courts allocated to the various games, play began. Students supported their school teams by scoring, watching and cheering their teams on.

12 Warrnambool College students formed 3 teams -

Year 8 Boys Mixed Team 1 - Ben Owen, Spencer Harrison, Madison Welch, Frances Roberts

Year 8 Boys Mixed Team 2 - Tyler Brown, Lachlan Robson, Hannah Rooke, Moses Stromvall-Obrien

Year 8 Girls - Maddison Drake, Lilly Singleton, Brianna Kilpatrick, Georgia Turner

Soccer

Last Thursday year 7 and 8 boys and girls soccer was held at Harris Street. Students played amazing on the day and managed to endure some very windy and rainy Warrnambool weather. The dives happening on this pitch were very real and not over-dramatic. After a number of intense matches both boys and girls teams were victorious and will continue to the next round to the held in Ballarat.
