Principal's Notes

Notes

Welcome back to term three, which has started with an abundance of activity. This term is always busy, and especially so for those students in Year 12 who are now within a few months of their important final examination period. Best wishes to those students as they embark on their final full term of secondary schooling.

Mid-year Presentation Assemblies

Tomorrow we will acknowledge those students who achieved highly in semester one, in our Junior and Senior School Presentation Assemblies. Congratulations in advance to those students who will be recognised for their achievements.

Parent Opinion Survey

A percentage of our school families will have recently received an invitation to complete an online Parent Opinion Survey. If you were within that randomly selected group I would ask you to please complete the survey as soon as you are able. All responses are confidential and the feedback received through the survey is important to the school. We use the information and opinion provided in both future planning and the assessment of current progress against the goals contained within our School Strategic Plan.

Pupil-Free Day and end of term Parent/Teacher interviews

Please note that all staff members will be participating in the final day of a four-day program on the Berry Street Positive Education Model, on Thursday August 16. That day will be a pupil-free day and I appreciate your understanding of the need for such days. The Berry Street program has already been a very valuable learning experience for our staff members and the benefits within the classroom are already beginning to be observed.

Parent/student/teacher interviews have been scheduled for the afternoon and evening of Thursday September 20 and all day on Friday September 21. I would encourage all parents/guardians/carers to take the opportunity to meet with the child’s teachers and to ensure their child also attends the interviews. There will be no formal classes held on Friday September 21.

Staffing

Mrs Cheryl Seggie, our Home Economics/Food Studies teacher aide, has decided to retire after a long period of service to our school. Mrs Seggie has been connected to our school since the 1980’s and has agonised over the decision to retire for many weeks and months. We held an informal morning tea for Cheryl last week and will have a more formal farewell later this term. Cheryl has been a pillar of support for Home Economics teachers for many years, has been involved in all aspects of school life and will be sadly missed. We wish her the very best of luck for the future.
