A Curious Trip to Melbourne - IBDP Theatre

In February the Year 12 IB Theatre class travelled to Melbourne for the day to see the internationally acclaimed UK National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This extraordinary show was presented by Melbourne Theatre Company at the Arts Centre. The Theatre students were keen to see the company’s theatrical and innovative use of technical elements such as lighting and projection. Morag Anderson’s observation was, “The set design, at first glance, looked simple, like grid paper, however, as soon as the play began and the stage lit up, it was filled with intricate projected details and even set items hidden in the walls of the set, such as cupboards and tables”.

Ash Brookes is writing her IBDP Extended Essay on Simon Stephens’ adaptation of Mark Haddon’s much loved novel. Her focus is on the actor developing and portraying the lead role of Christopher, and she is currently corresponding with the Arts Centre to source further first hand experiences from the actor and director. We would all highly recommend seeing this production as it tours Australia.
