Learning about France
Prep French -
In French lessons, students have been learning to greet each other, use their manners, say their name and count to ten. Students have also enjoyed learning about "La tour Eiffel", the famous landmark in the city of Paris. They have constructed their own 3D replica towers from an array of materials; Lego, Planks and/or Play-Doh. Most recently, they have been working on a detailed 2D poster of the tower through a french-inspired art lesson with Wendi and myself.
Grade 1/2 French -
Students have been covering a unit on "La Famille" in which they have completed their own family tree with appropriate french vocabulary. They have been exploring the program "Languages Online-French" which allows them to review and consolidate topics and vocabulary previously learnt. Most students can now hold a simple conversation, in French, telling you how they are, what their name is and how old they are.
Grade 2/3/4 French -
Students in the middle school have been developing their cultural awareness and geographical understanding of both Australia and France through a research task. Students have been working in pairs to collect information (population, area, capital city, surrounding seas/oceans) from atlases and/or internet on their nominated country. Most students have completed this first step. The next step will be for students to compare and contrast the two countries with the support of a double bubble thinking map. This task will be assessed and displayed in their portfolios. Students have also continued to develop their French language skills in small group clinics during lessons.
