Holiday Cooking

In the last couple of weeks of term I've noticed a positive shift in the confidence and skills of our Year Three and Four students in the kitchen. They are totally impressing us with their increased time management and independence as they chop, fry, mix and  knead their way around the kitchen! It's been wonderful and so gratifying to hear their feedback as they tell me about their cooking and snack preparation at home. Hopefully you have noticed it at home, too.

The holidays may be the perfect time to allow your child to show off their skills! This recipe is a perfect opportunity as there there are no knives involved. Best choc chip cookies ever.

Enjoy.

Cafe Style Choc Chip Cookies

Equipment:

  • trays
  • Baking paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Metric scales

Ingredients:

  • 180 g butter softened
  • 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • 125 ml sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
  • 250 g dark choc bits ( I often use a mixture of dark, milk and white)

What to do:

  1. Measure and prepare all of your ingredients
  2. Preheat oven to 180C. Using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy. Beat in condensed milk.
  3. Add the flour and mix on low speed until smooth. Stir in the choc bits until well combined. Roll about 2 teaspoonfuls of the mixture into balls and place on baking paper lined trays. Press each ball with a floured fork.
  4. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool on the trays. Store in airtight containers.

Many thanks to all our volunteers in the kitchen and garden throughout this term.  We so appreciate your help.  The students gain so much from the opportunity to share their experiences with parents, grandparent and special friends.  Thank you.
