Mrs Bornewski
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for stopping by on the library page. We have lots of exciting news this week especially with Book Week being celebrated next week. Let’s get straight into it to find out everything that’s happening.
The Premier’s reading challenge closed last Friday and we congratulate all the students who completed the challenge. What a great achievement! A special mention to Reece in Year 2, who completed the challenge just before it closed and joined the wall of fame. Well done to all these students and we look forward to handing out their certificates when they are distributed from the Premier later this year. Even more so, we are very excited with how much joy they have found in reading and the benefits of doing so.
Book Week is held annually, thanks to the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) and we have so many exciting new books in the library that have been shortlisted this year. These books will be used in class and in the library during book week and then they will be available for students to borrow. We have been busy looking at all of the books in each category and predicting who we think the winners may be, but drum roll…..the results are in. Congratulations to all the authors/illustrators for being shortlisted. Below are the winners;
There are lots of great activities installed for Book Week next week! The theme for this year is, DREAMING WITH EYES OPEN.
A reminder that our dress up Book Week Parade will be held on Thursday 1st September after our Father’s Day liturgy. Have fun thinking about what costume to wear, whether it be a character from a book or along the Dreaming with Eyes Open theme. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there to join in the fun!
We also have a fabulous SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR running Tuesday-Thursday afternoons, Wednesday and Thursday before school which is being held in the undercroft. Students with their carers are welcome to come along and purchase some great titles, with proceeds going back to our school. At school on Tuesday students will have a chance to look at the books available and come home with a wish list, we encourage parents to make a payment online and the students can received their books on Wednesday. For more details please read below.
THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
With so many books constantly being added to our library, getting them covered is no easy feat and we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful volunteers for their greatly appreciated assistance. Special thank you to Steph Teagle and Rachael Natoli. Thank YOU!
However we still need volunteers for our Book Fair. If you are able to assist please contact laura.coutenay@syd.catholic.edu.au who is kindly organising this great event.

This year we have again organised Scholastics to provide books for our Book Fair. Students will receive a sneak-peek brochure before the main event in Week 6. The book Fair will arrive Week 7 Monday 29th August, students will have a chance with their classroom teacher to come and view the books on offer. Students can write a wish list and bring it home to show parents and we encourage parents to pay for books online. Students can then bring these wish lists back to school with the payment receipt number and take their books home. If any books sell out we will be able to order copies for students. The book fair will be open for purchasing the afternoon of Tuesday 30th August and the following Wednesday 31st afternoon and finishing on Thursday 1st September morning during the Father’s day breakfast.
Each year the school receives a commission on the amount of books students purchase and this has provided a great range of books and other resources for the classrooms in the past years.
There is also the option to purchase a book and donate it to the school Library.
There will also be an opportunity for your child to win a $10 voucher per class to purchase anything at the book fair. See the poster competition information above.
Parent Volunteers are needed to help run the book fair mornings and afternoons. Please put the dates in your diary and if anyone is available Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and Wedneday - Thursday morning to assist with the running of the book fair please let myself know. laura.coutenay@syd.catholic.edu.au.
Thank you Laura Courtenay
