School Uniforms

During Terms 1 and 4 students wear the summer academic uniform, while in Terms 2 and 3 the winter academic uniform is worn.

School Uniform Policy

Our school uniform is an important part of St Margaret Mary’s School’s culture and identity. We foster pride in all aspects of school life including our personal presentation and caring for our school environment. Students reflect their pride in the school by wearing the uniform well. It is a very powerful tool when students are in the public eye. It is therefore fitting that students are encouraged to wear the uniform with pride.

The Uniform Booklet details the school uniform pieces that are to be worn by students of St Margaret Mary’s. Please refer to this booklet to ensure that your child is correctly and appropriately dressed for school.

School Presentation Requirements

St Margaret Mary's expects students to wear the school uniform with pride and spirit. It is a requirement for all students to adhere to the following:

  • Students are to present at school wearing the school uniform appropriate for that day, e.g. sports or academic uniform.
  • Students who are unable to wear the correct school uniform are required to report to the school office with a letter from their parent / carer.
  • Students who have a damaged or unacceptably dirty uniform must have a letter from their parent / carer explaining the circumstance.
  • If your child damages the uniform of another student, the parents in question will be expected to remedy the situation.
  • If t-shirts or other undergarments are worn beneath the school uniform, they must not be visible or protruding from the uniform.
  • If students do not conform with the school uniform policy a letter will be sent home informing parents that their child has failed to arrive at school wearing the correct uniform and requesting that the parents attend a meeting with the school principal in order to discuss the matter further.
  • Those parents experiencing financial difficulty are encouraged to purchase items from the school’s second hand uniform shop or to contact the school principal to discuss the matter further.
  • Students are expected to wear a school hat at all times when outside. We cannot over emphasise the importance of students wearing hats to prevent damage from the ultra-violet rays of the sun. St Margaret Mary’s has a policy of ‘no hat, no play’ whereby children without a hat must sit on the benches under the large tree in the playground.
  • It is a tradition that Year 6 students can wear the dedicated Year 6 Jersey at school. This piece is not to be passed down to siblings or to be worn by any student who is not in Year 6.
  • Uniform pieces must be sourced from Yeronga School Uniforms, our designated supplier only.

CHECKING CLOTHING FOR NAMES

As the weather turns colder in the mornings children often take jackets/jumpers off during the day, to ensure the return of your child's clothing it is recommended to label all items of clothing with your child's name and class. Any items with incorrect labelling can be sent to the school office and we will ensure they are returned to their rightful owners.
