Xenica Community Report

Term 3, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Xenica teachers would like to thank all of the families for their ongoing support towards the students. We have had an amazing term, and we are very excited to share with you our learning this month. Students have enjoyed book week and their costumes were amazing!

Reading

In Reading, students have been working on exploring non fiction texts and their purpose. Students have explored the features of non-fiction texts.  They have investigated the purpose of; contents, glossary, index, diagrams, captions, and labels. Students have explored the main idea in these texts and how to write a book review.

Writing

During Term 3, students have been working on writing information reports. They were able to use their understanding of the structure of an information report and apply it in their own writing. Students used Epic! to research information on different animals. The students followed the writing cycle of; planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing their information reports. Reading and Writing has been integrated and the students have used their knowledge of diagrams, captions and labels when writing.

Maths

During Term 3, the students have been focussing on Multiplication and Division and learning different strategies to support each area. We implemented a maths session dedicated to problem solving where students needed to solve a problem that can have multiple answers and they needed to show their working out and what strategies they used. To finish off the term the students have looked at gathering data and creating graphs and looking at maps and giving accurate directions for others to follow.

SEL

In Social and Emotional, students have been learning about taking care of ourselves. We have learned about how to deal with different situations in the classroom and what problem solving strategies we can use.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been exploring Water and what it’s used for and why it’s so important. We looked at the effects water pollution has on ourselves but also marine life and what we can do to help prevent it getting any worse. Students are finishing off the term by investigating natural disasters and researching different ones while gathering information and facts.
