ITALIAN CARNIVAL 2023

We are very excited about hosting another Italian Carnival next year on Tuesday, February the 28th, 2023. This time, we are looking forward to making it BIGGER and BETTER! This means, we hope to put on a carnival, with costumes, food and a lot more activities. We will wear costumes all day at school, have a costume parade, enjoy some classroom Carnevale activities, and have a 'Carnevale Learning Street Party' officially run from home time to 4:30 after school.

*Therefore, we are reaching out to families in our community who run a food business professionally. If you have an official food business and have a food handling certificate, and would like to set up a food truck/ stall for our Italian Carnival, we would love to hear from you!

Also, any musicians are welcome to come and perform some music. We welcome music of all cultures, as Carnevale is a celebration of life!

Please contact michelle.napolitano@education.vic.gov.au or write to us via Compass if you are interested in joining our celebrations.

We are also extending invitations to all of our school community - including past students of AHPS. Please come and join in the fun and catch up with some of your old classmates and teachers!

We are very excited about our current unit of work - ANDIAMO AL MERCATO!

Students are continuing to develop their understanding of basic Italian grammar, and building their growing Italian vocabulary through an exciting unit of work called 'Andiamo Al Mercato' (Let's go to the Market) - which is about roleplaying buying and selling different types of food at the market.

.
.

We have been learning about how to say basic food items in Italian such as bread, meat, fish, and eggs, and extending our knowledge by learning about how to say a variety of different foods in Italian that varied market stalls and shops may sell, such as the butcher, fish market, bakery, green grocer, and deli.

Students have been collaborating to start to develop food item lists, prices, and shop signs. Some have started writing dialogue in the form of a playscript to guide their roleplay conversations about buying and selling different food.

Each individual or group will become a 'specialist' in a particular area of vocabulary, by researching new words for their market stall, and practising varied phrases that strengthen their grammar. They are nearly ready to share and support other groups through interactive roleplay!

This unit of work will carry through to next term where we look forward to practising everything we have learned, via our roleplay conversations at our 'market stalls'. Students are also excited about checking in on our Italian vocabulary and knowledge of basic Italian grammar to conclude this unit by mid term 4. Let's celebrate learning!

And the WINNER of our second AHPS Briscola Tournament is:

Krish (5/6D)! Bravo!

Participants demonstrated their knowledge of Italian vocabulary by naming each card in Italian as they played. All participants showed excellent team spirit, by cheering each other on and supporting each other. Well done! Krish was followed very closely by our 2nd place winner Udham (3/4F). Udham will have a guaranteed place in the next tournament - AGAIN! He is our luckiest participant of all!

As always, a special thanks to our Italian Captains Mia and Ali for all of their hard work and support during the tournament.

Our next tournament date will be Tuesday the 18th of October.
