Road Safety Excursion
The walk to the museum, though tiring, was soon rewarding as we began to see the large structure of Melbourne Museum. We stepped into the TAC room and we were greeted by the road to zero presenter, a kind lady who additionally was a great speaker.
After an explanation of how TAC campaigns are created, we attempted our first activity; creating a TAC advertisement. The class was in 5 separate groups and gathered around the various interactive tables to create our own TAC advertisement. Creating our own slogan, arranging our own clips and incorporating special effects, we formed our video. We even got to choose our own topic! The topics included pedestrian safety and cyclist safety.
After reviewing the videos and being led out of the room, we watched a video about what exactly “Road to Zero” meant. Through this, we learnt the four areas which TAC also aims to improve the roads to achieve “Zero” meaning Zero deaths on the roads. The aims being: Safer Roads, Safe Speeds, Safe Vehicles and Safe People.
Next, we entered an interactive exhibition that taught us about the dangers regarding the road. There were many activities we could attempt, the coolest probably being the VR experience which taught us the history of road safety in Victoria, and the “Zero” deaths future of road safety. We also got to see Graham, ‘the only person designed to survive on our roads’.
Due to covid, we have not been able to have many excursions, so this opportunity was very exciting and it was refreshing to learn in a different environment.
