From the Principal Team

Thank you to all parents and carers for your support of the school during the term. It is much appreciated. Your support manifests in a range of ways big and small - engaging your child in a conversation about their report, talking to them about positive experiences at school, asking them about homework, checking they have the correct uniform and presenting the best version of themselves.

Recently we have been talking to students about being an upstander rather than a bystander. Rather than say nothing or do nothing when we witness something that is not right, speak out or act to help make our community a safe and thriving place to be. Recently the community policing unit spoke to our 7-9 students on this theme and to celebrate RU OK? Day we had 7-10 students participate in workshops on resilience building, improved mental health and how to deal with anxiety and depression.

We are currently developing a RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) for the school. The RAP committee comprise students, parents and staff. We value any contributions from our community. Stephanie Briggs, our Koorie Education Support Officer (KESO) works closely with the school and our indigenous students and families.

I wish our Year 12 students all the very best in their preparation for practice exams and in their remaining SACs.

I hope everyone has a relaxing break before starting the final term of 2022.

GEC Uniform Parent Feedback Survey

Glen Eira College's uniform sub-committee is exploring additional uniform items for the 2023 school year.

Following consultation with members of staff, students and parents several items are being considered as ways to enhance student comfort, especially during cooler months of the year.

Please note that the designs represented are preliminary and are provided as an example only.  These are NOT final designs.

Please take a moment to provide feedback to our uniform sub-committee:

2023 School for Student Leadership

I am pleased to advise that six positions (three boys, three girls) have been secured at the School for Student Leadership for Term 1 2023 at the Don Road Campus.

The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for Year 9 students.

This opportunity exists in addition to the Year 9 Camp.

The School for Student Leadership offers a fully residential program for one school term with accommodation for up to 45 students in a purpose-built facility. During their nine week stay, students will live and work in a very close environment with their peers. There are challenges and lessons on human relationships that will arise from this lifestyle. Great friendships are made, tolerance is learned and teamwork and leadership is created.

The unique program at the School for Student Leadership focuses on engaging students in activities which allow them to explore and learn about the local environment and cultures; both indigenous and non-indigenous. Gaining a sense of belonging in local places through knowledge and experience is a key learning outcome. Students spend a significant amount of time learning to survive and thrive in the alpine environment.

Interested Year 8 (2022) students will be asked to complete a written application, participate in a group task and speak with an interview panel early in Term 4.

Uniform Policy

Thank you to all students, parents and carers for your support in implementing our uniform policy.

Please continue to encourage your child to follow our Uniform Policy and continue to provide them with a note should there be an instance when they cannot follow the Uniform Policy.

It is very nice to see our students wearing their uniform proudly.

The uniform policy aims to creates a sense of collective and individual pride in our school as well as giving our students a sense of belonging, order and security. It teaches young people the importance of following rules and regulations.

In addition, the uniform policy fosters equality for all students. Compulsory uniforms assist in eliminating peer group pressure to wear less appropriate clothing, reduces competition amongst young people and removes pressure on families to provide “fashionable” items for daily wear.

Just a reminder about wearing PE uniform:

  • Students in Years 7-9 are allowed to wear their PE Uniform only on the days they have a PE class
  • Students in Year 10 need to bring their PE Uniform to school to be worn only during PE classes

We also encourage all students and families to approach our school uniform subcommittee (sub-committee of school council) and bring proposals to the attention of the committee. This is a way that you can effect a possible change to the policy. If you are interested, please contact the school.
