In this Science Newsletter I would like to share with you all the Stained Glass biscuit recipe that students made during National Science Week to celebrate the Year of Glass. The students thoroughly enjoyed decorating the biscuits and the feedback was they were “yummy”.
Enjoy making this recipe:
Stained glass biscuits
Makes approx 30 biscuits
200 gm boiled lollies smashed, keeping all the different colours separated.
Note: the lollies do not have to be a fine powder, just crushed into small pieces.
Biscuit
200gm butter
½ C caster sugar
1/3 C golden syrup
1 tsp vanilla
2C flour
Cream everything except the flour until light and creamy
Fold in the flour to form a dough, and then rest dough for 30 mins in a cool place
Roll dough out to approx. ½ cm thickness and cut out stars or circles.
Using a smaller cutter of the same shape cut a hole into the center of your biscuit.
Bake biscuits for 5-6 mins @180 C until very lightly golden.
Allow to cool.
To finish
Fill the center with crushed lolly and return to the oven for a further 5 min. until the lolly is completely melted.
Leave to cool for 10 minutes before removing from the tray.
