Asbestos Removalist and Hygienist Onsite

As noted in the Compass Newsfeed posts over the last few days, a suspected fragment of asbestos was found in the grassy area between the shady tree and the lower playground. An inspection has cleared the site, which will be a great relief to our younger students who are very active in that lower playground space. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hats Hats Hats - It’s That Time of Year

Thanks to those who have purchased hats for their children to prepare for these sunnier periods. From next Monday, all students are required to wear a hat while outside. As the UV index increases, so too is the potential long term damage to our skin. We encourage students and parents to ensure each hat is labelled.

Swimming Reminder (Prep-2)

In the first week of term 4, students from Prep through to Year 2 will be participating in morning swimming lessons. These instructional lessons are paid for by the Department of Education, while the cost of transport and entry is paid for by the parents. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to know more. The deadline for payment is next Wednesday 14 September.

FORPS BBQ

Our parents’ and friends’ group at Rosanna Primary (FORPS) are gathering again to raise money at Northland Bunnings. Please drop by and purchase your own sausage or consider joining the roster. We look forward to having our AFL/Rugby/Soccer goals installed early in Term 4 … all as a result of our parents’ fundraising!

Concert Tickets

Students are excited about the upcoming Concert in Term 4. The office has been overwhelmed with ticket orders, a sign that parents are excited as well. While our initial sales have concluded, we are in the process of distributing extra tickets. These will be allocated one by one over the coming week. While it is clear that all our families had an opportunity to purchase at least two tickets, we suspect there will not be enough for another one for all who requested extra tickets. These single tickets will be allocated according to those who applied for their tickets first.

Footy Frenzy Day

The JSC are running the annual footy day. I was sure we always dressed in the red and white of the Swans, but a number of others are inviting students to come in their own AFL teams’ colours. One of the rituals of the day will be a team parade (not down the Yarra) in the last hour of the day. All are welcome to come and join in the cheering!

School Council Update

School Council met recently. They were thrilled to hear three of our very eloquent leaders present the Acknowledgement of Country, as well as share the remarkable experiences of the Junior School Council. Don’t miss the latest publication by Rosanna Primary students.

School Council confirmed that the last day of the year for students will be Monday 19 December. To avoid any further disruption to parents as they return to work and to enable preparation for 2023, Tuesday 20 December will be a whole school Professional Practice Day without students.

Divisional Reps

It was wonderful to have so many of our students participate in the Divisional Athletics Carnival held yesterday. Some ran, while others threw and leapt! We look forward to celebrating their achievements at the assembly on Friday!

The Great Book Swap

The pile of books ready to be swapped is growing in the administration area! Students have been dropping off books and picking up their vouchers from the office. For just a gold coin they will be invited to make a selection from the wide range of wonderful books. The Big Book Swap will happen on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8:30am to 9:00am as well as on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 3:30pm to 4:00pm.

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous Languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We are hoping to raise $300! We are well and truly underway with some donations.

Emergency Drill Next Wednesday

Next Wednesday at 2:40pm we have scheduled an Emergency Drill. Students and staff will rehearse a lockdown drill. We thought we may never have to implement such a drill, but a kangaroo onsite last year along with wildlife officers, meant that the Lockdown Drill was initiated. Teachers will be discussing their roles and responsibilities in classes. You may wish to see this as an opportunity to discuss your home emergency practices. If you are onsite at this time you are encouraged to follow the direction of staff.

Smile Squad Examinations

For those who have consented to have a free dental examination, they will begin this week. Amidst the disruption of the past few years our visits to the dentist have been less regular.
