Around our level

We are so proud of the performance of our Prep students at their very first Whole School Production. The children have worked so hard throughout the year to practice their songs and dance movements and it was wonderful for them to showcase their talents to family and friends. CAST A had an amazing performance on Wednesday night with Mrs Macrae and CAST B had a fantastic performance on Thursday night with Miss Ross. The excitement and anticipation was electric backstage. There were lots of butterflies and excitement as our students performed ‘Squeeze the Sauce’ and ‘The Umpire Strikes Back’ and then finished off the night with the finale. The costumes looked sensational. A very big thank you to Mrs Shalders, for all of her hard work in bringing together such a fabulous show. We hope that you all enjoyed the Performance and watching your child onstage at Yarra Valley George Wood Auditorium.

In Spelling, we have been revisiting the sounds that ‘ch ‘and ‘sh’ make. We have been learning how to write these letters correctly both in upper and lower case in our handwriting sessions.

In Reading, we have been learning about the comprehension strategy of ‘Inferring’. This means that we use clues in the title, pictures and our schema to make connections in the text to make reasonable predictions. We read ‘Jake’s Surprise’ and ‘A Day in the Sun’.

In Writing, we have been looking at ‘small moments’. We have been sounding out words independently and relating them to our own personal experiences about the zoo and birthdays.

In Math’s, we have been learning about numbers beyond 10. We have been learning about teen numbers. (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20).

In Mappen, we designed aluminum foils boats that could hold a number of counters. We read the story ‘Who Sank the Boat?’ By Pamela Allen. We discussed design features such as the walls of our boat, the capacity and how much our boat could hold and made predictions. Our most successful boat was able to hold over 269 counters before it started to sink. It was fun testing out our boats to see how many counters they could hold.

Term 3 has been huge. Here is a short recap of some of this term’s highlights. Our Preps celebrated their 100 Days of School, completed weekly PMP sessions with Mr Darby, completed rehearsals and the performance of ‘STAR WARTS’ at Yarra Valley Grammar, celebrated BOOK WEEK by dressing up as their favourite book character.

We hope that you all have a very safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to lots of exciting things to come in Term 4. A list of Term 4 events have been published in our Prep Newsletter. Please ensure to check dates in both the Prep Newsletter and the School Newsletter for upcoming school events. Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!
