Mullauna Music

August 2022

Music Camp

How fabulous it was to load all our music gear and head off on Music Camp for the first time since 2019!

On Wednesday 10  August, we packed up all the musical instruments, music and music stands required for Year 7 Band Melodic Minors and Concert Band, along with 66 young musicians in Years 7 and 8, leaders in Year 9 and staff, into two buses with trailers and headed off to Camp Oasis in Mt Evelyn. We don’t travel light  however, as our music students excel in packing and unpacking. This year on our return, I witnessed the best unpack and reset I have ever seen! Amazing team work Mullauna musicians, well done!

Our days were filled with making music, eating great food and doing activities such as archery; visiting the Eco Centre and the frogs, lizards, snakes and turtles; using the flying fox and crate climb, with superstar Year 7 Asher climbing the full 16 crates to the gym roof! The weather was kind to us too, and we had a great bonfire night.

Two highlights were rehearsing with our amazing guest conductor Brian Hogg, a local band music composer, conductor and educator as well as an African drumming workshop for all percussionists and Year 9’s. The performance after spending just one hour together was amazing!

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend this event. This camp has accelerated our music preparation in readiness for the theme concert on Thursday 8 September. Hope to see you all there!
