Bountiful Book Week

CBCA Book Week is a week where we highlight the importance of reading and the stories they share with us. Each year since 1945, the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. To celebrate Book Week at Shelford, there was a different activity planned each lunchtime. There were activities such as bookmark making, book cover redesign and even a book trivia contest! The aim of these activities was to encourage the kids to read more often! Friday was the most important day as we got to dress up as book characters and have a parade. Many parents came along to watch the Junior School assembly and book parade. Some Junior School students even won a book voucher from the Senior School book parade!

Your Place Visit

On Thursday 25 August, we welcomed Your Place ELC students, staff and parents to the Junior Discovery Centre, celebrating Book Week with a group story telling time, ‘Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo’. Students then explored musical instruments and created their own maracas. Shake, shake, shake! The Your Place children made some beautiful ‘thank you’ artwork. We look forward to welcoming them back soon.

Father Figures Fun

This week we celebrated Father Figures in our lives. Some of the fun activities were a Father's Day stall, a breakfast, and chapel dedicated to our fathers. At the stall, there were fun treats for us to purchase for the special males in our lives. At the breakfast, there were games and delicious breakfast treats provided for all the daughters and fathers to bond. At chapel, we sang a beautiful song to show all the father figures how much we love them. We hope everyone enjoyed the events, and all the father figures have a wonderful day on Sunday. Happy Father’s Day.

Creative Clubs

Each Monday afternoon, a collection of budding artists meet in the JDC for Directed Drawing Club. Under the guidance of in-house artists, Mrs Williams and Mrs Walker, armed with sharpies and a sketch book, the students draw some favourite and recognisable characters such as Harry and Hermione, the Minions, Elsa and Poppy from Trolls. After colouring in there is often even time to draw a scrumptious looking donut or milkshake!

Year 3 and 4 Excursion to the Melbourne Museum

Last week on Wednesday 31 August, Year 3 and 4 went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. We did the ‘Learning Lab’ experience on climate change. We first watched an emersion video called River Connections, this was about the impact humans have on the land. Then we worked in teams on an infographic about how we can all help with reducing climate change. After we went for a walk through some of the exhibits including one about natural gems, minerals and rocks. We also saw the dinosaur exhibit.
