Wheeltalk!

On Friday the 16th of august the 3/4s had an incursion revolving around disability and inclusion, it was called 'Wheel Talk'. This day was enjoyed by everyone and something that they will remember for the rest of their time at Albanvale Primary School.

Today, we interviewed the teachers and some of the students to find out more about what they did and how they felt about it.

What was the reason that you had the incursion of WheelTalk?

We had the incursion because recently we have been exploring different disabilities and how this impacts people's lives. We have also been looking at inclusion and why it is important to include everyone, no matter their difference.

What did you do during the incursion?

We met a great guy named Peter, who was disabled. He spoke to us about his disability and how this affects his life. This was really good because it helped us to understand what we have been learning in inquiry.

This was followed by being able to have a go in a Wheelchair were we played a game of handball. This was good because we were able to understand a small amount of the difficulties that people who are in wheelchairs go through.

What was your favourite part of the incursion?

I think everyone loved the game that we played. It was so much fun but it was hard to control the wheelchair. It was a fun way of learning about the topic.

I liked hearing from Peter and what he has been through. It really helped me to be interested in the inquiry topic.

Do you think the classes enjoyed the experience?
This is definitely something that I enjoyed. The whole time, the class was smiling and having fun. I would definitely want everyone to do this.
