Sandra's Cycle 2 Class

Room C2SS Distance Learning

We are now in our fourth week of distance learning and what a tricky practical life job it has been so far!

The children are engaged each day in learning activities via our Jitsi sessions which have helped immensely with maintaining a routine and a connection with our community. Children are given follow-up work based on their lessons/sessions including tasks prepared for them in their Take-home packs. Each fortnight, the children receive an activity grid with assigned assignments in each of the learning curriculum areas. This has included continent research, animal studies, letter and Journal writing, science experiments and further exploration of geographical periods introduced in the Timeline of Life in Term One.

In our group sessions, there is a solid focus on Literacy and Numeracy. In Language, the younger children heard the story of The Multitude and learnt that “everything has a name”, and we will continue to explore the function of the Noun in the following weeks. In Mathematics and Geometry, the children are exploring 2D and 3D shapes, building their problem-solving skills by finding solutions to weekly math problems, and all continue to work in various ways with the four operations. The children were very excited and eager to find out what the small additional package was that came with their 2nd take-home pack. Last week, the children opened their small package called ‘The Botany Kit’ and have since begun their exploration of plants with our first of many experiments - The Needs of Plants.

Our Friday whole group session on Jitsi has been a wonderful way to connect, inspire and share what each of the children have been up to during the week, and we are all learning a great deal about one another, and have met many four legged furry friends too.

The children continue to show ownership over their learning by planning their day and keeping a record of their activities into their Weekly planner, and It has been helpful to receive this every Friday with samples of the children’s work.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone together again at school as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, enjoy a good balance between schoolwork and play, explore your local and home environment and the moments of togetherness with your family.

I am impressed about how the children have adapted to their new daily routines and am appreciative of their consistent efforts in completing their daily tasks. I am very much enjoying discovering about their individual interests and the regular updates I receive about their explorations and discoveries. I wish to thank parents for your continued support and collaboration during this period.

Best wishes,

Sandra Starvaggi
