Cycle 3

Cycle 3 Distance Learning

During distance learning in Term 2, the Cycle 3 students are given a new work grid each week, which offers a variety of interactive and hands-on learning activities in all curriculum areas. These activities offer opportunities to explore the students’ immediate environment, as well as the wider world. I would like to express my appreciation of all the effort both students and parents are putting into completing these tasks, and with distance learning in general. I have been thoroughly impressed by the motivation and level of engagement demonstrated by the students. It is a pleasure to go through the photos and updates I receive from the students regularly; from these I can follow their learning experiences and provide feedback on their work.

Work by Jasmine

Vanessa exploring synonyms.

Leshae finding shapes around the house and creating a graph from her findings.

Alena recording the different types of angles and their characteristics, as discussed in the small group math session.

Xavier exploring botany, drawing and labeling the parts of a flower.

Bella exploring the water cycle, with an experiment.

Tom creating a Venn Diagram to compare two types of snakes.

Felix completing the practical life task of planning and preparing a family picnic.

Tanay makes a Power Point presentation to report back to me, with some of the work he has completed. Here are his completed Magic Squares, which really stretched the students’ math brains! And Lennox created a treemap chart, comparing population in various countries, while ordering them from largest to smallest.

During our small group Jitsi sessions, we have been focusing on Math and Language. In Math we have discussed angles and their properties during the first few weeks, and we will focus on developing the students’ math problem solving skills for the remainder of the term. In Language we have worked with Sentence Analysis and will explore verbal discussion and text analysis, as well. The sessions are extremely valuable and allow for both students and teachers to connect regularly, despite being in isolation.

Thank you to the whole PVIMS community for your support during Distance Learning. I miss seeing all the students and staff daily, but I enjoy our regular Jitsi meetings. Before we know it, we will be allowed back to school. Until then, please stay safe everyone!

Warm Regards,

Michael's Character and Plot Development

Here is Michael Cunningham in cycle 3’s character and plot development for his story, Dragon King. I, Shona Williams, thought he has done a brilliant job and he also building these characters and the port out of LEGO.
