Electives 7-10

Last electives for the year

This will be the last term of Electives for all our Year 10 students. We wish them well as they prepare for their transition to the IB Diploma Programme, followed by a week at the beautiful Wollangarra Outdoor Education Centre in Gippsland.

See below for a selection of images from the first couple of classes:

Theatresports with Adam Simon

Students participate in a variety of improvisation games to assist in developing their drama skills. Each class is structured similar to a Whose Line Is It Anyway?  TV show. Samples of activities are Film Styles, Fixed Emotions, House Party and Mission Improbable.

Indonesian with Jen Buchanan

Did you know that Indonesia has a HUGE street art movement? On the island of Bali, Quint is one of the most cherished street artists in Indonesia... he combines his graffiti skills with stencil art to cover rustic concrete walls of abandoned buildings in Bali with amazing work. In this elective students are learning some basic Indonesian while also creating their stencil/street artwork.

The art and science of programming with Karl von Moller

This elective of programming, electronics and soldering is a fun way to get to know technology and what actually underpins modern society, allowing your creative brain to dream up new ideas from making Musicand Artto the machines and devices that can help you achieve a vast array of things.

Scrapbooking with Sophie Maxwell

Students are learning the basics in the art of scrapbooking and have the opportunity to create a beautiful photo album, a thoughtful scrapbook gift, family memorabilia or even a time capsule.

Self defence with Fiona Skene

Students learn the tools that can easily build their confidence and self-worth; all the strength they have and how to use it to its full potential; defend themselves, understand others and advance their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strength. (A big THANK YOU to Jake, Ebony and Angus for successfully taking the students through their first class as the instructor was unfortunately unable to attend.)

Skateboarding with Junction Skate team

This innovative and refreshingly new program focuses on engaging all students, irrespective of age and gender, and delivers an active fun and games-based clinic incorporating balance, agility, coordination and technique. During the program, confidence is built by the individual as he/she progresses with skills and techniques imparted during the sessions; the program also assists in the building of participants’ self-esteem and positive identity for young people and youth culture.

Soccer with Shede Olukhale

This term we welcome back Shede from Kickstart training. An ex international athlete, Shede is a fully qualified personal trainer and played for the Kenyan national football team. Students will continue exploring the practical and theoretical aspects of the world game with a focus on formation, passing and ball control skills, positioning and goal scoring.

Extreme frisbee with Donal Uahwatanasakul

This term will have an emphasis on strategies of the game as our goal is to enter teams into the 2018 UV High School State CHAMPIONSHIPS Yr 7-9 played on 21 November (TBC). It is a 5 on 5 competition.

Kitchen garden with John Collins

This term’s elective returns to our regular focus on ethical eating or 'eating green'. Students will source nutritious and delicious ‘green’ recipes, as well as cooking up delicious food each week and take care of the kitchen garden crops.
