Farewell

Best wishes to our graduating class of 2018. We wish you well as you transition to life after school. Remember to listen to your instinct and follow your dreams.

Important: tax file number for course places

Year 12 students are reminded yet again that they cannot enrol in a CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place) university course next year without a Tax File Number (TFN).  Students who do not have one are reminded to apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office.

To apply and also to find out about participating Post Offices, visit TFN Application

Change of preferences

Remember it's easy to add or remove courses on your preference list anytime up until Noon Wednesday 19 December when it closes for round one offers to be processed.  You may want to change your preferences if you have changed your mind about which course you most want to study, if a new course has become available and you would like to add it to your preference list, or if a course you had applied for has been cancelled and you want to replace it in your preference list.

There is no cost involved in changing your preferences. Don't forget to list courses in the order you would most like to study them, with the course you most want to get into at the top.

Below is a CHANGE OF PREFERENCE (COP) DATES AND CONTACTS 2018 reference sheet. This information is only a guideline and it is important that you do check dates and times.

Some important tips are:

1. Check course selection criteria carefully

2. Some courses can't be added after certain dates

3. Don't delete and re-add courses – use the re-ordering arrows

4. Change of preference will reopen after each offer round, and close before the next one.

I will be posting more information about this and individual University options in the coming weeks as they become available. For more information about changing your preferences you can also visit the VTAC website here:

http://www.vtac.edu.au/applying/courses/cop.html

Accessing your results 2018

The website will open 7am Friday 14 December and close 12noon Wednesday 19 December 2018. The joint results app will be in operation over the same time frame.

There will be more information about this closer to the time.

Year 12 Transition Guide

This guide has been put together to help you be successful in your first year of post secondary studies. Whether that is starting a vocational  course, undergraduate study or taking a gap year, we think you will find this handy little booklet useful.

Low Income Healthcare Card for Australian students

Once you have finished school you are no longer a student and you may be eligible for a Low Income Health Care Card.  This card gives access to a range of concessions, not only on some health care items but also on a range of other goods and services if you are on a low income.

In particular, some TAFE and other short courses offer discounts for cardholders. You may also be eligible for public transport concessions (note that if you are studying interstate you are not eligible for public transport concessions in Victoria). It is highly recommended that all graduating Year 12 students consider applying for this card once the exams are over.  Visit Low Income Healthcare Card and find out more.

UAC reminder

If you are applying to study in NSW or ACT you may need to apply through the University Admissions Centre (UAC). Please visit UAC's website for an overview of the application process. The application processing charge is $70 and is not refundable.

Again, once you've applied, you can change the order of your preferences – or even the courses you’ve selected – as often as you like before the closing dates for each offer round. (Some courses have early application closing dates so check for these as well.)

The most important offer rounds (UAC) for Year 12 students are December Round 2 on Thursday 20 December 2018 and January Round 1 on Friday 11 January 2019. These rounds are when most Year 12 applicants receive their offers.

For information about the UAC Special Considerations applications (EAS) please read the following attachment.

What if you think you won’t get a place at university?

Remember there are many alternatives. Some suggestions are:

  • Apply for a related TAFE course if you have not done so already
  • Apply for a course at Monash College or Deakin College (see VTAC Guide)
  • Complete a Diploma in Tertiary or Foundation Studies – e.g. at Monash University, RMIT and Victoria University
  • Nursing - complete a Diploma of Nursing at TAFE
  • Aim for a Supplementary Offer in January (see VTAC website)

Below is the 2019 guide to the different Pathways available to university. However please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need help.
