Year 10 Mid Year Examinations

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YEAR 10 MID YEAR EXAMINATIONS

Students in Year 10 will be undertaking formal exams for the first time shortly.  Class teachers will be preparing students for the exams and will explain the format and what they can and cannot bring into the Exam.  The formal Examination process is an important part of the learning process and will prepare students for VCE exams.  The mid-year examination period for Year 10 students commences on Monday 30th May and concludes Wednesday 1st June.

YEAR 10 SEMESTER ONE EXAMINATION TIMETABLE:

All students have been sent a copy of the exam timetable via their school email.  The timetable can also be accessed via the Wantirna College Daymap page.

Please note - Year 10 exams are scheduled for Period 1 and Periods 3 & 4 only.  This leaves a break from recess to the end of lunch for students to rest and prepare for their second exam for the day. Students can study in the Library or The Orchard.

STUDENTS STUDYING UNIT 1 (Year 11) SUBJECTS:

Year 11 exams follow the Year 10 examination period and commence Tuesday 2nd June and conclude Thursday 9th June.

The Year 11 - Unit 1 VCE Examination Timetable has also been emailed to students.

Year 10 students are expected to attend their normal timetabled Year 10 classes during this time, but obviously need to sit their Year 11 Exam. However, please note that during the Year 11 (Unit 1) examination period, all Year 11 classes are cancelled.  As per College Policy, all students must remain at the College during these times and undertake private study in the Library.

Please see overleaf, for further information regarding exam rules and behaviour.

EXAM BEHAVIOUR AND EXPECTATIONS

All students are required to attend an exam for each of their subjects (excluding Peer Support, Numeracy Support and VCE Boot Camp).  Exams form an integral part of VCE and further studies and may account for up to 66% of a student’s final mark in a Year 12 subject.  Developing sound examination skills now will support students with improved results in future studies.

Students are expected to abide by the following examination rules:

  • Wear full school uniform to all exams.  Normal consequences will apply for students out of uniform.
  • Follow all directions from supervising staff
  • Electronic devices e.g. mobile phones, iPods, smart watches, MP3 players etc. are forbidden in the examination venue
  • Clear water bottles are permitted in the exam centre, however any labels must be removed as per Yr 12 VCAA exam guidelines.
  • Arrive at the scheduled venue 10 minutes prior to the start of the exam to allow for entry.
  • Bring all appropriate materials e.g. writing implements, calculator etc.  Different subjects will have different approved materials that students can bring in.  It is the student’s responsibility to know what these are for each subject.  They will be clearly marked on the front of the exam paper.
  • Ask permission before leaving your seat during the exam.
  • Behave appropriately at all times during the exam.  Serious consequences will apply for anyone disrupting exams.

If students are sick on the day of an exam, they should let the following people know.  Exams will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.
