Census Jobs Available

Apply now for temporary, part-time Census jobs

Make a difference in your community and join Australia’s largest logistical peacetime operation – the 2016 Census of Population and Housing.

Census night is August 9, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic self-starters to fill up to 6,900 temporary Field Officer positions across Victoria. If you are tech-savvy and know your local area, the ABS wants to hear from you.

Working on the Census is a great way to contribute to your community. The data you help collect provides an important statistical snapshot that supports planning, policy and funding decisions for a range of local services and infrastructure – from housing and transport to health and education.

Field Officers will play a critical role, visiting households and ensuring everyone makes the count. They will also earn around $21 an hour, receive motor vehicle allowances and enjoy flexible working hours for up to 3 months.

To be considered for the position, you’ll need to be a good communicator with strong English skills, reasonably fit, licensed to drive and willing to travel and work independently. You’ll also need to be comfortable using a computer, tablet or mobile device and have the legal right to work in Australia.

These are part-time, casual positions, and most of the work will be conducted during August and September. People from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
