Rowing Camp

On the last weekend of the school holidays, 23 of our rowers travelled to Dimboola for our annual four-day rowing camp. Over the course of the four days, our rowers were vigorously tested and challenged both on and off the water. Each day, rowers participated in a series of fitness sessions including endurance runs, training circuits and rowing machine trials. We also had plenty of time rowing on the water, adapting to new crews and improving technique. This year we were joined by several new rowers, who after enduring intense fitness testing, along with the rest of the club, have now fitted in beautifully. Rowers enjoyed some relaxing times off the water as well as they continued to bond and form new friendships away from the boats. It was great to see the enormous support reverberating throughout the club, encouraging and pushing each other through challenging activities.

Rowers were very appreciative of the great meals and snacks provided by a committed group of parents; special thanks go to Trine Hirst for her organisation. The intense and well-designed fitness program is thanks to our team of coaches consisting of Josh Frichot, Simon Ross, Daker Pern, Beanie Mould and Amy Boland. Thanks to this dedicated team, all rowers are working to improve their fitness and technique for the season to come. The fantastic organisation by our new enthusiastic Head of Rowing Dr Hirst and the staff meant this camp ran very smoothly and all rowers greatly appreciated the time staff have put in to support their rowing. We are looking forward to a rewarding and successful season ahead and encourage anyone interested in rowing to come down and join us at training.

CRICKET CAPTAINS 2019/2020

Mrs Williams and I are extremely excited with the appointment of Ben McCure and Eliza Jagger to the cricket captaincy roles this season. Ben and Eliza have enjoyed successive Under 16 premierships with College and have already began to make an impact at senior level. Ben, a left arm medium-fast bowler and middle order batsman, made his College A Grade debut last season. In 2018/2019 Eliza managed to play 40 games of cricket for College across U/16 Boys’ and Girls’, A Grade women and D Grade. Eliza was apart of the successful women’s A Grade premiership team, where she was named the Association’s MVP. Both Ben and Eliza are going to make outstanding contributions to our program this year and will follow on from the great work of 2018/2019 captains Riley Alexander and Lauren Richards.
