Office Oracle

School photos are here

Your school photos – including student ID cards – have now arrived in the office. You are welcome to collect them (anytime between 9am – 4pm) or, alternatively, we can post them to you if you care to email judy.o’donnell@preshil.vic.edu.au.

Otherwise, they will be distributed as and when students return to school.

Years 7 & 10 immunisation during COVID-19

Maintaining existing public health initiatives, such as the one offered to secondary students, is a priority at a time when safe and effective vaccination programs are so important.

In consultation with the immunisation team at City of Boroondara, students will be offered vaccines at Preshil on Monday 9 November 2020 as follows:

Year 7:

o   Diphtheria/tetanus/whooping cough vaccine (dTpa)

o   Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) - first injection (the second injection of this vaccine will take place in May 2021)

Year 10:

o   Meningococcal ACWY vaccine

Alternatively, parents/carers have the following options:

1)   Attend the City of Boroondara immunisation service, by appointment, at the Hawthorn Arts Centre; bookings can be made online at https://www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/community-support/immunisation

 2)   Visit your local GP (while the vaccines are free under the National Immunisation Program, your GP may charge an appointment fee).

3)   For Year 10 students (15 years and older), visit a pharmacist immuniser service.

Help me to help others

Hola! wonderful community of Preshil... this is Lina, the cleaner. I am from Colombia and some of you might have seen me around with my bucket. Today I just want to share with you a project I am working on, so come with me to read this beautiful story.

I am lucky enough to be working at Preshil in times like these; I have everything I need at the moment to live and accept what is going on, but some others are not so lucky. In December last year I started with a project of supporting a Colombian indigenous family EMBERA CHAMI by selling their handcrafted jewellery. This is the only income they have for living and by doing this they preserve our cultural and ancestral legacy by passing from generation to generation the art of beading.

Due to Covid-19, the entire country of Colombia has been in quarantine since 24 March. This means they are at home and not able to go out to sell any of their handcrafted jewellery or send stock to Australia. That's why I have decided to sponsor them; how? - by donating 70% of sales on bracelets handmade by me and 30% of sales of the EMBERA CONNECTION (indigenous jewellery). The goal is to cover their essential needs plus the internet account so Daisy (who is an 11 year old girl and a student in Year 6) will be able to connect and continue her online classes.

I would really appreciate any purchase from you. The following has some pictures, my details and some more information about the project:

Thanks a lot for reading this and remember that in times like these, where we cannot control everything, stay humble, be kind, smile and say hola!  Sending love, Lina

[Lina does an excellent job cleaning and disinfecting the secondary campus, providing staff and students daily with a safe environment in which to work and learn during this global pandemic].
