Rugby 7s

n my role of rugby captain, I want to encourage the girls to train hard and play hard.  With the commencement of training on Monday, the participation and the turnout from the girls was amazing, and I was pleased to see the spirit and passion within everyone.

As the rugby season officially kicked off, the girls have started strength and conditioning training sessions every Monday morning from 7.00 to 8.00am and field training every Thursday afternoon from 3.30 to 5.00 pm at Everton Park Roosters grounds.  It is essential that all girls wanting to participate in rugby come to these training sessions.  Throughout these sessions, we will be preparing ourselves for what’s to come in the rugby season through various exercises that are based around injury prevention, rugby skills and drills, and how to incorporate them into game play.

We have selected three major Rugby 7s tournaments for our teams this year.  We will also be organising gala days held at various venues as part of our training and development. These are an essential part of our lead-up to the major tournaments.  CaSSSA may also hold a tournament/skills clinic in August this year.  It is anticipated that the girls selected into the U13, U15, and U18 divisions will attend and play the following tournaments: SEQ Rugby 7s, Scott’s College Tournament, and the Student Horizons All School Rugby 7s.

As Rugby 7s is a full contact sport, a mouth guard, boots, and the Mount Alvernia playing strip is compulsory; head gear and shoulder pads are also recommended but not compulsory.

This year, we are lucky enough to be working again with Mr Glen Dodds from Rugby Development Solutions, as well as teachers Mr Terry Donaghue and Mr Chris Daykin.

We are all looking forward to a great season of Rugby 7s in 2020.

Please read the poster supplied by GingerCloud and you can attend the information session held on Friday 24 July.  This session will be at 11.00am and held at the ground floor La Verna space.
