Student Musings
A great start to the Cross-Country challenge with all 4 Houses crossing the border into NSW. Quite surprising with all the restrictions in place due to COVID19. Frazer has started off strongly and is leading the way into Sydney with Freeman right on its tail. Jackman and Mabo have started off a little slower, clearly pacing themselves for the torturous kilometres ahead, knowing full well they have plenty of time to close the gap with the leaders.
It would be fantastic to see every single student and staff member contribute to the challenge. All walks, runs or bike rides no matter the distance, can be included. Just make sure you use an app like Runkeeper or Strava to provide appropriate evidence.
A reminder that students in Yrs 10 - 12 are to use the link below to add their entries: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=boHJjeoW4UCu1Ot0Tq1bfmLmfHlhCKdCqjBxhVSBCtpUMkRPQU1FNzBaUlJITFdOUUZHSEtJTDhKTS4u

Refugee Challenge:
As part of the Year 12 Food Studies course, students have been studying the topic of food insecurity. Whilst in Australia we are privileged to have a secure food supply, many developing countries globally do not have such a luxury. In this lesson, students were provided with the ingredients equivalent to the those provided as daily rations to many refugees across the world. Students were able to create inventive meals out of these ingredients, but definitely had a greater appreciation for the secure food supply available in Australia afterwards.
The ingredients provided in this challenge were:
60g rice
60g plain flour
60 tinned kidney beans
25g dried lentils
10g dried chickpeas
15g tinned sardines
40ml vegetable oil
Spices
Whilst COVID19 Lockdown 2.0 has been both overwhelming and draining for some, it has not stopped our mighty Year 7 ACE students from crafting some beautiful writing pieces and sharing these with the wider community. Last term I published in RSC Connections the work of Natalie Barr and how her picture storybook ‘Larry the Llama’ was acknowledged by the Red Gum Writer’s awards.
This week, I write to announce that Susannah Maher has had her writing piece ‘Bubble Blowing Bees’ published in the CRISP Nursery Newsletter. Well done, Susannah.
I encourage all students across the College to use this ‘down time’ to explore writing more and to share this with your communities. As we can see, it pays off!

In Unit 4, students are required to present at least one finished artwork/s based on selected and evaluated potential directions developed through the studio process, which demonstrate the application of materials and techniques, and realises and communicates the student’s ideas expressed in the exploration proposal.
The Visual Arts staff have been very proud of our students work ethic; in particular during the added challenges of COVID-19. We encourage our Year 12 students to continue working consistently across Unit 4, which supports growth mindset – having a mindset that believe your outcomes are determined by your effort more so than your ability.
Outstanding finished artwork/s are anticipated, as students continue working tirelessly to resolve their potential directions.
