Term 3 Week 6
STORY PUBLISHED IN WRITING COMPETITION
We are very excited to see our very own talented writer Ayla have her short story published in a book by Better Read Kids. With the theme 'windows', Ayla wrote a story under 1000 words with an anti-bullying message. She says she feels very proud that is has a good moral of the story to treat others with kindness. We now have a copy of the book in our library. Please come by to read Ayla's story and check out the other fantastic submissions. Well done Ayla!
"I would love to make a writing competition with my friends for people to enter at school with the theme 'environment' to raise awareness of saving our planet" - Ayla, T17
"I was a bit bored so I wanted to do something exciting. I decided I wanted to enter a writing competition because I love to write. Me and my mum were researching writing competitions and then we found a website where we found some kid writing competitions and there was one that said “windows”. The prize was $100 dollars and $50 dollars for runner-ups and all participants got their books published into an anthology. At that point I knew I wanted to enter that competition, my first book published when I was 9! So mum asked me “What is your book going to be about?”. I thought hard and I knew I wanted to write a story that had a good moral so then all of a sudden I had my idea! I told mum my idea. ”I am thinking of a mean girl and then she looked through her window, went to a different place and she saw her window was cracked”. The next day after school I got my computer and started typing. When I write I like to get all my ideas down so I put in every detail. It continued like this for a week or two then I finally finished my story! I showed my parents and they said it was a wonderful story with a good moral to it. We entered the story in and then we waited till the first of August for the results. I did not win and the winner was Eddie Bull but I felt good because I got a copy of the book and it has motivated me to write more. Thank you Mr Grinham for ordering a copy for our school library."
