VET Hospitality

In our VET Hospitality class, we study a number of modules throughout the year and in the first round of remote learning as we were not on site, we devoted all of our time to the theoretical component. Upon our return to the College, we were cooking every lesson.

Recently we made sushi, burritos and today was crème brulee. The photos and video attached show us using a blowtorch in order to caramelise the sugar on top. This process creates a hardened toffee surface which when broken with a spoon makes a very satisfying crack - the sign of a good brulee!

A fun fact about crème brulee, according to the Mobile Cuisine, is that “the world record for largest creme brulee topped out at 26 feet in diameter, weighed 1,600 pounds and was estimated to have two million calories.”

Hospitality is a great option for those who want to widen their skills in the industry. It is a job that is easily accessible worldwide for those who want to travel and work, or to just gain extra money on the side.
