Remote & Flexible Learning

With two weeks of remote and flexible learning behind us, the teachers and students are now in good routines, understanding the expectations for the day to day learning.

It is important to remember during this time that learning from home requires students to do as much as they are capable of achieving on that day. This may look different depending on the type of activity your child is engaged in and what time of the day it is.

If your child has siblings in other educational settings, there will be a contrast between the JSA learning programs and other schools programs. The JSA classroom teachers have uploaded or sent home work aligned to the PLSP goal for every student, so they can learn at the pace and level they are comfortable with.

A typical day means students should be participating in the following:

  • One literacy activity
  • Movement Break
  • One numeracy activity
  • Movement Break
  • One 'other' activity

The 'other activities' are available in the form of Music, Art, PE, Humanities, STEAM.

The revised Operations guide from the Department of Education and Training has indicated that we should provide hard copies to students with limited digital access only. We encourage you and the students to engage with Seesaw and WebEx whenever possible as this is the recommended platform for learning during remote and flexible learning.

Curriculum and Pupil Free Days

On Monday 17th August and Tuesday 18th August staff participated in two days of Professional Learning, well being activities and collaboration for planning and assessment. This included using ABLES assessment data to find the ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) of the students to plan teaching and learning. Understanding where students are currently sitting on the curriculum continuum helps teachers to plan for individualised teaching and informs PLSP goals. An important part of getting this information right is the process of moderation. Curriculum and Pupil Free days allow classroom teams time to meet and discuss the skills and knowledge they have observed in each student, leading to more accurate data.

Upcoming Assessments

Between now and the end of the term, the teachers will be engaging in some assessment of your child in order to better inform the PLSP goals they are writing and collect accurate data.

If you are working with your child at home during these assessments consider the difference between support to complete the task independently and helping your child complete the task. It's a tricky balance, however it's really important that your child completes all assessments as independently as possible so teachers can create PLSP goals at the correct ZPD for each student.

Literacy Activities this week

Book week would usually be week 6 of Term 3 however, it has been moved to Term 4.

We have been running some literacy activities during classes this week, especially in the Primary Sub School. On Friday 21/08 some of the Students & Staff dressed up as their favourite book character.
