CAPE TO CAPE EXPEDITION

As part of their practical assessment for Unit 3, the Year 12 Outdoor Education class recently went on a Bushwalking Expedition from the Margaret River Mouth to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse along the Cape to Cape Track. The students’ preparation and planning were very pleasing, allowing them to complete the four-day 64km expedition safely and efficiently.

All students took turns in leading the expedition which allowed them to further develop decision making, communication and leadership skills. Along the hike they participated in a number of lessons which were extremely beneficial as they were able to link a variety of theories with the practical demands of the expedition. Whilst the hike was very challenging at times in the soft sand with heavy packs, it proved to be a rewarding learning experience for all involved. The spectacular coastline and amazing weather were a highlight, along with hiking in the dark during the winter solstice.

2020 SENIOR SCHOOL INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The 2020 ASC Senior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival is scheduled to take place on the College oval on Thursday, 27 August from approximately 9.00am to 3.25pm. It is an excellent day, with many outstanding student performances on display and lots of fun to be had for the whole College community. More details about the event will be shared in Term 3.

ATHLETICS TRAINING TERM 3

Athletics Training starts on Thursday, 23 July (Week 1) from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, and will take place each Thursday through to Week 9. Long- and short-distance running training in conjunction with Running Club begins on Friday, 24 July (Week 1) and will take place each Wednesday and Friday until Week 9, from 7.00am to 8.00am.

Breakfast will be provided after the morning sessions. We are in ‘B’ Division for Interschool Athletics, and to achieve a positive result in 2020 we need as many students at training as possible. Training is valuable for students in preparation for the Interhouse Carnival and it’s also a great way to have fun with your mates.

If any family or friends of College students are interested in helping us by cooking some toast and helping our students refuel after morning training sessions, please contact the Director of Sport and Health and Physical Education, Miss Britt Gray on 9313 9333 or britt.gray@allsaints.wa.edu.au

ASSOCIATED AND CATHOLIC COLLEGES (ACC) ALL STARS SWIM TEAM

Due to the effects of COVID-19, late in Term 1 all ACC Interschool Swimming Carnivals were cancelled. This led ACC to provide the opportunity for schools to nominate swimmers for the 2020 ACC All Stars Swim Team. This team was selected via a “virtual carnival” which saw schools submit their swimmers’ official times from school-based carnivals or 2020 swim meets.

We are pleased to announce that the following ASC students were selected in the 2020 ACC All Stars Swim Team, placing them as some of the top swimmers in their age groups across the 90 ACC member schools:

Vienne Seneque (Year 11) – DIV 1 50m Freestyle, DIV 1 50m Backstroke, DIV 1 4x50m Freestyle Relay (U17 Girls)

Mitchell McKell (Year 11) – DIV 1 50m Freestyle, DIV 1 4x50m Freestyle Relay (U17 Boys)

Jasmine Mueller (Year 11) – DIV 2 50m Backstroke (U17 Girls)

Noah Dean (Year 8) – DIV 1 4x50m Freestyle Relay (U14 Boys)

Congratulations to these students who will be acknowledged at our next Senior School assembly.

INTERHOUSE SPORT

After an abrupt end to Term 1 and a turbulent start to Term 2, Interhouse Sport was able to resume in a modified format. It was wonderful to see so many students in attendance throughout this term, which saw us implementing new sports, modified rules and no scoring or House points to account for social distancing measures.

During today's final Interhouse Sport session for Term 2, students participated in the first ever “Rainbow Round”. This special round gave students the opportunity to play with their peers from other Houses in a round that promoted inclusiveness and enjoyment, and which acted as a celebration of the end of a most unusual term.

Interhouse Sport will take a break during Term 3 to make room for Thursday afternoon Athletics training, but will return in Term 4. We look forward to seeing you all then for another term of fun, participation and the opportunity to be physically active.

THE RUNNING CLUB

The Running Club has seen great attendance since returning for Term 2, despite many cold and wet mornings. It was great to see so many students involved, with some attending every session for the term. Well done!

During Term 3, Running Club will focus on shorter-distance running to align with the Athletics season and to prepare our runners for the upcoming All Saints’ College Interhouse Athletics and 1500m Carnivals, and the ACC Interschool Carnival which will be held later in the year. Training days will change to Tuesday and Friday mornings and we will continue to provide breakfast for our runners after training. We encourage our regular runners to continue attending and welcome all new students. Whether your goal is to improve your running, keep physically active or even simply socialise with friends, The Running Club is for you!

BADMINTON TRAINING

Badminton training was extremely popular again during Term 2, with students from Years 7–12 in regular attendance. It is wonderful to see so many students engaging in the sport of Badminton and developing their skills under the coaching of Andrew Chai.

Training will continue for Senior School students during Term 3 on Tuesday afternoons 3.30pm–4.30pm in the Indoor Sports Centre. Further details and student sign up can be found on Roll Call, under the Cocurricular tab on MyASC. We welcome any new players; all you need is your sports uniform!
