Then & Now

Mahendra Mehra

Here’s Mr Mehra back in 2005. This photo was taken in a place called Ladakh, which is in the Western Himalayas, near the border of India and Tibet. This mountain range has an altitude of 3000m- that’s almost three times higher than Mt St Leonard!

At this point in time, Mr Mehra was on an adventure with two of his work colleagues, driving this little Suzuki roughly 1000 km from Delhi to Ladakh. Together they worked in a boarding school in Delhi.

Mr Mehra is originally from Rajasthan, a state in Northern India. In 2007, two years after this photograph was taken, he moved to Australia. He met his wife, Sarah, in India and initially they were friends, but as Mr M puts it, he soon ‘fell in love.’ Love brought him to Australia to be with Sarah and eventually their two daughters.

Mr Mehra returns home every year. The COVID situation has created some uncertainties for him because he is unsure when international travel will become a realistic possibility and he will be able to see his family again. Other than his family the thing he misses the most about his homeland is authentic Indian food.

Thanks for sharing, Mr M. We hope you are reunited with your family soon!
