BASKETBALL

10/11/22: Patience is a Virtue

“Basketball isn’t just a sport. It is an art, one that must be mastered to succeed” – Stephen Curry

Thursday November 10, it was time to put some shine on our craft and begin to master our game plan. At 3:45pm, the KWS Lakers were ready to make magic of the hard work at training into a Mona Lisa on court.

Despite the last-minute changes and timing mix-ups from external parties, the Lakers ignored all chaos and rose to the challenge. Some guaranteed, successful layups ensured this legendary team had the early lead we’ve been deserving all season. Continued communication on court and presence in defence allowed the Lakers to continue to maximize on all opportunities and convert skill and hard work into points.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the victory was ours. The KWS Lakers really deserved this win and I congratulate them all for their hard work, positive spirit, energy and persistence so far this season as we continue to master our basketball art.

We look forward to a fierce round in the coming days and will continue to polish our craft through passing into space and showing no mercy in the air as we launch for possession off rebounds.

Week IV Points:

3 – Xavier Zinga

2 – Henry Quigley, Aari Poole

1 – Harry Curtain, Sam Adetifa

17.11.22 - Bringing Home the Cup

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships” - Michael Jordan

Another milestone made, another championship is in reach for the KWS Lakers.A magnificent match played with pride and purpose from all teammates. Early points within the opening minutes allowed the KWS Lakers to settle into the game and ignite the talent that brought this team together in the first place.

It is important to note that it wasn’t this talent alone that allowed the Lakers to claim victory against our strategic opponents on the 17.11.22; it was communication as a team and smart defence that ensured the Lakers walked away with another win.

Many basketball players fail their tests in school because they do not want to pass. The Lakers overcame this temptation this week and optimised on all space left open on court. A great sense of trust between teammates allowed the Lakers to take some shooting risks in the second half. We enjoyed this challenge and certainly know what aspect of our game we will be working on in the future.

A special shout-out to Jed Volkofsky who scored more than half of the points for the Lakers.

As a result, Week V points:

3 - Jed Volkofsky

2 - Harry Curtin

1 - Sam Adetifa, Xavier Zinga, Henry Quigley, Jett Johnson

CRICKET

Our cricket teams have finally found a bit of luck with the weather, allowing them to get some more consistent training and games completed. Highlights of the previous two weeks include the U11 Blue tie with Millthorpe, where Nick Strahorn took a wicket on the final ball of the innings to tie the game up.

Our U13s most recently had a convincing win over Orange City Warriors, with Tom Hughes 33*, Ben Chambers 24*, Sam Commins 19*, George Nash* and Harry Chapman 13* all performing exceptionally well with the bat to take KWS to a total of 2/166 off their 25 overs. In reply, tight bowling restricted the opposition to 79 all out, wickets shared between Vivaan Desai (2), Ben Chambers (1), Harry Chapman (1), George Nash (1) and Tom Hughes (1)
