Kilvington Reads Book Week: Celebrating Inspiration and Imagination

The Library Team

We're thrilled to share the wonderful highlights from this year's Kilvington Reads Book Week, a week that brought the magic of storytelling and literature to life. The School was abuzz with excitement, creativity, and a deep love for books as students, parents, and staff came together to celebrate the power of reading.

The theme for this year's Book Week was ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’, and what a week it was! One of the most anticipated events was the dazzling parade, where every participant was a winner. It was heartwarming to see our students fully embrace their favourite literary characters, demonstrating their love for reading through imaginative costumes. A big shoutout goes to all the parents who poured their efforts into co-creating these spectacular ensembles.

Our ELC students truly stole the show with their outstanding participation and boundless enthusiasm. From classic characters to modern heroes, their costumes showcased the diverse range of stories that captured their young hearts.

A highlight of Kilvington Reads Book Week was the author incursions that left an indelible mark on our students. Years 5 and Year 6 students had the privilege of engaging with Katrina Nannestad, a captivating author who shared her journey of discovering the joy of reading.

Her personal story resonated with many as she revealed that she didn't find her love for books until she was in Year 11. Katrina's reading preferences, especially her fondness for comics as a child, were relatable to our students. She delighted the audience by reading excerpts from her popular ‘Mim and the Travelling Bookshop’ series, sparking imaginations and igniting a passion for storytelling.

The interactive sessions with authors were a hit across all year levels. Alice Pung and Sher Rill Ng wowed Year 2 students with their collaborative work, ‘Be Careful, Xiao Xin!’ Sher Rill’s live illustration demonstrations left the young minds awe-inspired, and Alice's insights into the writing process ignited their curiosity.

Davina Bell enchanted Prep and Year 1s with her engaging tales, transporting them to enchanting worlds through her words. Meanwhile, Years 3 and 4 students embraced their creative sides with Jack Henseleit, crafting spooky stories that showcased their vivid imaginations.

Lunchtime activities were a blast, thanks to the ingenuity of our Year 6 Library Leader, Charlotte Fergusson, and her dynamic team members Ginger and Amilia. From the Prep craft activity, and the Years 1 and 2 Treasure Hunt, to the Book and Boogie for Years 5 and 6 students, every moment was filled with laughter and literary joy.

Let's not forget the exciting competitions that are still ongoing! Preps are invited to draw their favourite characters, Years 1 and 2 students can design unique bookmarks, Years 3 and 4 students have the chance to submit their short stories, and Years 5 and 6 students can showcase their artistic talents by creating a comic of their favourite scene from any book.

As we wrap up another fantastic Kilvington Reads Book Week, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire Kilvington community. Indeed, it takes a village to create such a vibrant and enriching experience. So, as the echoes of Book Week still linger, let's continue to foster a love for reading and storytelling. Keep those pages turning, for within the world of books lies endless inspiration, growth, and imagination.

Happy reading!
