Community Update

Humans of Kilvington

Taking time out from her busy schedule organising our Centenary Gala, plus more (details below!), our 'Humans of Kilvington' guest is the bubbly Bianca Lapins, Community Relations Officer.

1. When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?

An F/A-18 Hornet pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force.

2. What AFL football team do you support (if any)?

Collingwood (Go Pies!).

3. You can travel to any destination in the world, where would you go?

Alaska, USA - in summer for the scenery, wildlife and wide open spaces, and in winter, for the skiing, snow mobiling and northern lights.

4. Funniest/most memorable moment at Kilvington.

Delivering a Kilvington Cares meal to the wrong address. Luckily the residents knew the intended recipient and helped me find my way.

5. Share something about yourself that no one would ever guess.

I love making leadlight windows and lamps.

6. If you could swap your job with anyone else at Kilvington, who would you swap with?

The Food Tech team for sure. It would be marvellous to have a kitchen so clean and organised all the time.

7. Your favourite thing about working at Kilvington?

The amazing staff and wider Kilvington community, including parents’ and friends’ and our wonderful alumni. Oh, and the chicken sandwiches made by our Canteen Manager for alumni events. They are delicious!

Eat Up Sandwich-Making Session

Jacqui Goldenberg, Community Service Program Director

Recently, Kilvington hosted and assisted Eat Up Australia, one of our six charity partners, with running a public sandwich-making session. We had the ambitious target of making 5000 sandwiches in an hour.

We had 120 members of the public attend and help out, including a number of our staff members and Senior School students. David Southwick, local MP, also attended and lent a helping hand.

Within an hour, the 120 volunteers had buttered 555 loaves of bread and turned out 5,000 sandwiches for hungry children across Melbourne.

Thanks also to Frank from Maintenance for helping with the set up. Our Sports Centre was the perfect location for such an amazing event, living out the School’s motto of 'not for our own but others’ good'

School TV - Respectful Relationships

Fostering a nurturing environment of respectful relationships within your family holds the key to not only harmonious living, but also improved academic outcomes for your children.

As parents and caregivers, teaching children to respect themselves and others will open up avenues for both personal growth and academic achievement. Fostering an environment where respect is not just a word, but a practiced behaviour, will empower young people with essential life skills.

Effective communication, active listening, and the art of compromise, will provide your child with a solid foundation that will transcend family interactions and help them collaborate effectively with peers, teachers and the broader community.

In this edition of SchoolTV, learn how to empower young people in healthy interactions to embrace differences and forge connections that honour their self-worth.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition, and we always welcome your feedback. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the School for further information or seek medical or professional help.
