Being Well at Magill

Positron vs Negatron

Greetings fellow Magillians,

And here we are at the end of 2022 and what a year it has been. As we depart to enjoy a well-earned summer break, I want to share with you our latest tool for addressing wellbeing at Magill.

When you watch Inside Magill this week, look out for Positron vs Negatron. The brainchild of the 2022 Year 6 Student Leaders, it aims to support Magill School students by tackling issues that are relevant or of concern to them, as illustrated in each year’s Wellbeing and Engagement Collection data (WEC).

Episode One: “The Battle of the Feelings” teaches children to listen to warning signals the body sends to the brain and use positive strategies to manage big emotions. Positron and Negatron are opposing characters representing our inner voice: one of which aims to guide us to react (Negatron) and the other guides us to reflect carefully and use strategies that are taught and practised, before responding (Positron).

In this episode, a student is experiencing unkind behaviour from friends. She is encouraged to seek her revenge by Negatron……..what happens next? Will Positron come to the rescue in time? If you do not want a spoiler alert, ignore the captions accompanying the following pictures!  Stay tuned for future episodes………what will Positron and Negatron get up to next?

On behalf of all of us here at Magill, have a safe and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2023.

Stay well!
