A Message from Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

Transition

This week we are very excited to have three 2023 class transition sessions; today at 2.30pm - 3.30pm, Wednesday 10.00am - 1.30pm and Thursday 9.00am - 10.00am. Unlike our Step-Up sessions that were focussed on being comfortable with change, these sessions will place our students in their 2023 classrooms with their 2023 classmates and teacher (where possible) and provide our students and teachers with opportunities to get to know one another and make plans for a new year of learning together. This will also be an opportunity for our students to hand on the artifact they have been working on as part of their inquiry this term.

2023 Class Lists

Class lists for our students in grades 1-6 will be published via email today, with Foundation classes published on Wednesday. Our students have already had a taste of their 2023 classes this afternoon, during our first transition session, and we hope they have come home with a bounce in their step and excitement for the new year.

We have had a last minute change to our teaching teams, with Larissa Fry taking a year off from teaching here. Ernesto Bobadilla, who has astounded our Junior team this year and was due to move down to our Foundies, will instead be making his way up to join the Middle School and we will reduce to two Foundation classes with 18 students in each.

Staff have engaged in a long and detailed process to place students in classroom communities that will be positive, supportive and appropriately challenging. We look to create a balance of strengths and needs in each class and try to provide every student with supportive peers, based on student requests, parent/carer input and teacher observations. Throughout this process, sometimes things can be missed. If you have a concern about the class list that was emailed to you this afternoon, we ask that you email Hannah (hannah.reid@education.vic.gov.au) or Keir (keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au) with your concern. Please understand that due to the complex nature of class placements, changes will only be made if they are deemed as the highest priority.

Reports

Semester two 2022 reports will be published to families on Sentral on Thursday 15th December.

Semester reports are intended to be a valuable reflection of your child’s academic strengths, challenges and progress as well as their social-emotional development, connection to others and a tiny taste of the many joyful experiences they have had so far at our wonderful school.

Classrooms and specialist programs have provided engaging and stimulating learning activities throughout the semester and we want to share the development of your children with you, so we can work in partnership to continue to challenge and support our young learners. These reports should be considered in conjunction with ongoing discussions with teachers and parent-teacher interviews.

If you have any questions about your child’s report, please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher.

Thursday Assembly

On the last day of school each year we have a special final assembly where we say goodbye to our graduating grade 6s and farewell our departing families. Experience has shown us that when our final day is on a Monday, many of our families elect to start their holidays early. This year we will hold our final assembly on Thursday afternoon at 3.00pm. We invite all families (especially those who are departing and graduating) to come along to sing our school song once more with feeling!

Fun Day

This Friday (16/12) is our end of year Fun Day celebration! We are super excited to spend a day together, enjoying each others’ company and relaxing after a full year on site - no remote learning! We have been watching the weather carefully and have our fingers and toes crossed for the day to warm up a few degrees more. In the event of Friday being a cooler day, we encourage everyone to bring clothes and activities to suit the weather. We know some kids (and grown ups!) will jump into water no matter what the temperature is, but if your child is not one of those polar bears, they may want to bring a warm jumper, a book to read or playing cards.

Parents and carers are welcome to join us for the day; we just ask that you collect a wristband from the front office or from Hannah or Keir at the pool.
