Year 1 Unit

Welcome back!

Congratulations to the Year Ones for their smooth transition back into school. We were very impressed with the maturity shown as the students navigated their way around their new classes and classrooms. All with big smiles!

This week we have worked on establishing classroom routines and expectations. We’ve revisited the school values (Be a Learner, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe) and have already seen some exemplary behaviour. A big focus in our classrooms is being ready to learn and students have been able to show us the 5Ls of Learning (legs crossed, hands in lap, lips together, ears listening and eyes looking) during whole group work time on the mat. We look forward to a great term of learning.

Some things to stay tuned for:

  • A Year One term newsletter will be sent out shortly. This outlines what will be covered in each subject over the course of the term as well as other important information.
  • Parent Teacher Meet & Greet times will also be released shortly. This is an opportunity for you to touch base with your child’s teacher and to give them an insight into your child. If you are unable to attend at any of the times listed, please get in touch with your child’s teacher to arrange an alternative time.
  • Take home readers will begin Week 2. Information regarding the take home reader system in Year One will be communicated soon.
  • Year Ones will also begin to bring home their high frequency word lists for home practice.

It has been lovely meeting some of you this week and we look forward to the opportunity to establish positive partnerships with you over the term.
