Dental Care
Jackson School makes use of the Smile Squad. Parents/carers will be notified when this service is available at Jackson School. This service is provided free of charge. The parent/caregiver would need to provide consent to use this service. Additionally, a Special Care Unit is available at The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne for people with intellectual or physical disabilities. For further information, please telephone 9341 1000.
Devices
All students have access to a school-owned iPad or Tablet Laptop to support and enhance them in their learning. Students are allowed to bring personal entertainment devices for use during long periods on the bus. Independent travellers are able to carry a mobile phone. Students are encouraged to hand in valuable items to their teacher during the school day. Department of Education mobile phone policy states, that they must be handed to the teacher at the start of the day, to be kept in the classroom safe until home time. Mobile phones/smart watches are not to be kept in student bags or worn during the school day. The school will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to these items if brought to school.
Dogs
At Jackson School we have dogs who visit our school for therapy purposes, for example: Canine Comprehension. Jude is a therapy dog in training who is owned by Helena McAloon (Leading Teacher). Other dogs are not permitted on school grounds, especially for student collection and community events. If you child is allergic to fur or has a phobia of dogs please ensure you let us know.
Dress-up Days
We end each term with a non-uniform dress-up day. These include:
- Term 1: Easter Hat/Bonnet Parade
- Term 2: Pyjama Day
- Term 3: Footy Colours Days
We also have non-uniform days for Book Week, Halloween and other celebrations. These are not fundraising activities.
