Transition
A broad range of transition activities are conducted throughout the school year to support the students at all levels of their schooling. Transition includes enrolment into the school, moving from one grade level to another and exiting Jackson School. We have a strong relationship with our feeder kinders and schools from across Brimbank and Melton to ensure a positive transition into and out of Jackson School. Our staff conduct visits and assessments to feeder kinders, schools and may visit your child at your home prior to starting at Jackson. New and exisiting students will participate in transition visits and our step-up days in Term 4. It is very common for students to have a part-time, staggered transition into Jackson School to set your child up for success. We will also support any student who is transitioning out of Jackson School. Year 12 students will have a tailor-made pathways post-school supported by our Jobs, Skills, Pathway coordinator. Our Year 12 students will have taken part in industry visits in their final year of school. If you are moving house and need your child to transfer to a different school, please inform your classroom teacher and/or the office staff so that the necessary transfer arrangements can be made. The release of confidential documents to the new school requires permission from the parent/carer.
Travel Education
An ultimate goal for all of our students is that by the end of school they will have the capacity to independently travel to access post-school education, training and employment. From Year 7, students take part in a bi-weekly Travel Education program where they learn how to use public transport safety and appropriately with the support of our staff. This commences at school at our school-based Jackson Station and Transport Hub. Once a student has reached an independent status they may be encouraged to travel to and from school independently.
Toileting
Our Occupational Therapists can support with self-care needs at Jackson School. They will work with families and your child's class teacher and education support staff to establish a self-care profile and toilet training plan. Our staff are able to provide attendant / continence care at school.
We encourage families to seek help from their Maternal Child Health Nurse (MCHN) and/or Continence Foundation Australia prior to starting school. Download the One Step at a Time guide below.
