  1. Governance
  2. Strategic Planning
  3. Finance
  4. Policy & Review

Seesaw

SeeSaw is our school-wide student digital portfolio system, which enables parents to log in and view their child’s work which they have worked on during the school day and leave comments and encouragements.

SeeSaw works on any device which has access to the internet and has apps available on the Apple App Store® and Google Play Store®

Sick Children

A sick child should not be sent to school. If your child has an infectious or contagious disease (see Infectious Diseases Table), please contact the school Office so you can be advised as to when your child may return to school.  The school’s records can then be kept up to date. If your child becomes ill at school or has an accident, please be prepared, if requested, to collect your child from school.

Specialist Programs

In addition to the classroom teachers at Jackson, we also have specialist teachers in the areas of STEM, Media & Visual Arts, Physical Education, Performing Arts (Primary) and Design Technology (Secondary and Senior Secondary).

Sunsmart

For Primary students from 14th August to 30 April, all students must wear a sun-protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. For Secondary students we expect students to take responsibility for their sun safety by wearing a hat during outdoor activities and adopting other sun protection measures such as wearing sunscreen or using shade. We continue to recommend that our Secondary students wear a sun-protective hat for all outdoor activities where possible.

Swimming

We offer a "wet" swimming program for our primary years at local swimming pools. This is a weekly program for one term during the year. We will also focus on a "dry" swimming program focused around water safety around rivers, lakes and the beach.

School TV

SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting. SchoolTV topics are conveniently arranged into a number of series. Topics feature interviews with leading youth wellbeing experts and researchers from around the world offering hours of relevant and practical information. Additionally, each topic includes a compilation of related resources from key organisations providing a comprehensive stream of content.

Speech Pathology

The Speech Pathology team at Jackson School support the development of students’ communication skills to enable them to access the school curriculum and to socialise with peers and staff to the best of their ability. Speech Pathologists are allocated to each class to support with AAC (alternative and augmentative communication), social communication, language, literacy and feeding. Communication supports across the school include school communication board, visuals, aided language displays and Key Word Sign. Therapy support is provided in the classroom in collaboration with teaching staff as required.

Senior School

In Upper Secondary (Years 9 -10) students continue their studies in English and Mathematics through our World of Work program where students work in a rotation of project-based teams (Production, Service and Marketing/Finance) to run theschool cafe. Travel Education is explicitly taught in our secondary years with an aim to have students travel independently by the time they reach Senior Secondary to independently access work education and employment opportunities.

In Senior Secondary (Years 11-12), students take one of two pathways. VictorianPathways Certificate (VPC) supports our students to continue their education after graduating in further education, training or employment. The ASDAN program, an internationally accredited program, offers a higher level of support and develops students’ independent living skills through a range of real-world experiences in the community. In Senior Secondary, students spend three days a week offsite taking part in VETcourses, Work Experience and Apprenciships.

Smoking & Vaping

Jackson School is a smoke-free zone.

In Victoria, it is illegal for any person aged 18 or over to obtain, possess or use nicotine e-cigarettes, or e-cigarette cartridges containing nicotine, or nicotine liquids for use in a vaporiser without a prescription. Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are electronic devices which heat and vaporise liquids that may or may not contain nicotine or flavouring agents. The vapour is inhaled, simulating the act of smoking. Use of e-cigarettes is commonly referred to as ‘vaping’. It is illegal to sell e-cigarettes to, or buy e-cigarettes for, any person aged under 18 years whether or not the e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Whilst it is not unlawful for a person to possess or use e-cigarettes that do not contain nicotine, it is unlawful to use them on school premises or within 4 metres of a school entrance.

Student Support Group (SSGs) Meetings

Our Student Support Group Meetings (SSG) are scheduled for Tuesday between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Each appointment has a 20-minute time slot to ensure all parents and carers have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher. To ensure as many families are connected to school as possible, all SSG bookings will be made through Xuno where you can book a face-to-face meeting or a phone call. You can only see the available SSG meeting times on Xuno. Once you have selected a time, it will be confirmed. You will no longer receive a letter of confirmation regarding your meeting time. If a suitable time is not available, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to make an alternative booking. For on-site appointments between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm, our staff can supervise your child/ren at school during your SSG meeting. If you wish for your child/ren to remain and be supervised at school, please specify this in the comments section when booking your SSG meeting. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress in our specialist areas, please make an appointment through the office.

If you require an interpreter, please specify the language you require when booking the SSG meeting. As mentioned in the first Newsletter, our interpreter and translation services are now provided by “All Graduates”. Please see our Translation Services page for more information.
