PARENTS/CARERS AND THE SCHOOL

We welcome the support and interest of parents/carers in all facets of school life, believing that a close link between school and home is crucial in ensuring the success and happiness of the children involved. We hope that parents/carers will not hesitate to consult us on any matters which concern the education, career or general wellbeing of their children.

PARENT/TEACHER  INTERVIEWS

(SSGs - Student Support Group)

SSGs are arranged across the year and are a very important aspect of our student reporting processes. We strongly encourage all parents/carers to attend. These interviews are an ideal chance for:

  1. The parent and teacher to become acquainted.
  2. The child’s progress and behaviour to be discussed.
  3. A sharing of information between home and school.

PERMISSION FORMS

Students are often sent home with notes asking for parent/carer permission for a variety of activities. All notes inform parents/carers of the details of the excursion or event and always require a signature by the due date. Permission notes may be in paper or electronic form through our school management system (Xuno).   We ask that parents/carers return these forms promptly to allow for the smooth operation of all school events. It can be quite distressing for both the student and staff if the permission form has not been returned, particularly on the morning of an excursion or sports event.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS (Official)

Individual and group photographs are taken annually by a commercial school photographer and offered for sale. School photos are scheduled to be taken at a date to be advised.  Order forms will be sent home prior to this date. All students are required to wear school uniform for school photos.

We require all students to have an individual photograph taken for school records ,and ID cards for secondary students.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF STUDENTS

We celebrate the efforts of our students by mentioning their participation in school events and their achievements in our school newsletter. Often photographs of the students are included. We also use photographs on our school website and occasionally through press releases. Parental consent forms are signed at enrolment. If you do not wish photos of your child/ren to be used within school and in our wider community please inform us.

PBIS

Jackson provides a safe and positive learning environment for students, teachers and staff through the implementation of the Positive Behaviour Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program. In addition, we want to reduce behavioural problems that interfere with student learning. PBIS is a school-wide system that will help improve consistency in expected behaviours, resulting in students being ready and prepared to learn. The main focus of PBIS is to provide a clear system for all expected behaviours at Jackson. Through PBIS we will work together to create and maintain a productive and safe environment in which all school community members clearly understand the shared expectations for behaviour. Through positive recognition and continual teaching of expectations students will experience academic and social growth.

PRIVACY

The school cannot provide the phone number or address of any student without the permission of the parent/carer.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS

Each year teachers participate in whole school professional development days. These are student free days that are used by staff for professional education and planning. The school will notify parent/carers of these days well in advance.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Public holidays normally observed by this school are:

  • Australia Day
  • Labour Day
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • ANZAC Day
  • King’s Birthday
  • Melbourne Cup Day

Parents are notified of any changes to the above. Notes will be sent home to remind parents/carers of these holidays.

PUPIL INFORMATION SHEET

When a student is enrolled at the school they will receive an information pack. At the start of each school year a new ‘Student Information’ form will be sent home. Parents/carers are asked to complete this form so records can be kept up to date.
