Medication

All medication is secured in the General Office and distributed to the students under staff supervision. If your child is to have medication at school, please fill out the school’s ‘Medication Authority Form’ which is available at the front office. You must ensure there is an ongoing supply and that medication is clearly labelled in the original box with name, dosage and directions. The class teacher and the office staff must be notified in writing when there is a change in medications or dosage. No medication will be accepted at school without all the information requested.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MEDICATION TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD IN THEIR SCHOOL BAG.

Mental Health

Jackson School's Mental Health Team is made up of a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leading Teacher, Mental Health Practitioner (Social Worker), Art Therapists, Behaviour Therapist and Youth Worker.

These staff are employed as part of the state-wide Mental Health Reform (Mental Health in Primary Schools, Mental Health Practitioners, Mental Health Fund and Menu). They provide targeted small-group (Tier 2) and individualised (Tier 3) intervention programs. We also provide music and canine therapy at school using external providers.

Mobile Phones & Wearable Devices

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours. Before school students should also have their phone switched off and kept in their bag until they can place this in the classroom safe. By ensuring mobile phones are kept away at recess and lunch times, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause. This includes wearable cellular devices like Apple Watches connected to the internet or student's phones.

Student Transport Buses: Mobile phones are permitted when travelling to and from school. However, SDTP Bus Supervisors must report any inappropriate use of or behaviour in relation to mobile phone use by students (inappropriate context, videoing other students, taking photos on the bus). Mobile Phones and wearable devices should not be used before (8:45-9:00) and after school (2:50-3:00) whilst on school grounds.

Exceptions: For a small number of students with particular health needs, an exception to the policy may be granted. Please contact your Sub-School Leading Teacher if you would like to discuss this.

Myki Cards

From 1st January 2026, people aged 17 and under can travel free on all Victorian public transport services using a new youth myki card. This includes trams, trains, buses and coach services. Once students turn 18 they may be able to travel with a Victorian Student Pass or a concession ticket.

At Jackson School, students in Year 7-12 have access to a school-owned free Youth Myki card for use at school (excursions including travel education). Students will also be given a Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) approved School ID card which will be able to be used as proof-of-age across the PTV network.

You are still able to purchase a new Youth myki card for $5 online or from a staffed station. To access free travel students must tap the myki card on and off each time they travel. For areas that do not use myki cards, they must show their myki card to travel free.

Register for a Youth myki by:

  • logging into your myki account
  • creating a new account.

Once you register, you'll get an email to use for valid travel while you wait for your card to arrive. Youth Mykis purchased online will expire on your child's 18th birthday.
