SWPBS Update

Thank you very much to parents who completed our SWPBS survey. We really appreciate the feedback, and will be using it to update our action plan so we can make the program the best it can be for our school community.

A mixed sample of students have also completed a survey, invited and helped to do so by our current school leaders at recess and lunch. Thanks Beth and Devrim! Some of the weaknesses students saw were that there was sometimes a bias in who teachers handed out value cards to, that there are consequences and that sometimes some people don’t listen. This kind of feedback helps us check and improve how we explain and implement things with students. For example, next year we’ll be gathering data to ensure we’re accountable for fairly handing out value cards.

Here’s some of what students said about the program’s strengths…

“That it can help people be respectful and learn better things”

“We get to have a class party and it encourages people to do good things and it’s a fun way to get them to do so!”

“Teaches you to do good things”

“People get consequences for doing bad things and class parties”

“Helps you learn better”

2022 Virtual School Concert

This year we have decided to do a virtual concert again just to make sure everyone is as well as they can be before holidays start. I am sorry for the disappointment this may create for some people, but we felt strongly about the health and well-being of everyone when this decision was made.

We are a couple of weeks away from filming our VIRTUAL concert for you and I am so proud of your children for their hard work, resilience, and support that they are giving each other along the way. The costumes this year are very simple and will help to make the students feel special and extra excited. Your help in organising a couple of items is greatly appreciated.

Our theme is “Step Back in Time”.

Preps will be singing YMCA – 1970s

Students have been allocated a costume or an outfit that suits the clothing of the era and song. Girls will need to wear black leggings and if you wish, they can wear a singlet under the disco pinafores we are supplying.

Grade 1/2  will be singing ‘SING SING SING’ 1940s

All students will need a white T-shirt and girls might want to wear some leggings for ease of movement. The school will be supplying army and navy uniforms.

Grade 3 will be singing ‘ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK’ 1950s

Boys will need a plain white T-shirt and jeans or long pants similar in style. Girls will be supplied with a circle skirt and will need to supply a bright coloured plain T-shirt and leggings.

Grade 4/5/6 A will be singing ‘TONIGHT TONIGHT’ 1990s

The school will be supplying cool hats for the boys and a special top for the girls. Both boys and girls will need long dark pants or jeans and a plain white t-shirt for boys and a black t-shirt for girls (to put under the tops we supply).

Grade 4/5/6 B will be singing ‘EYE OF THE TIGER’ 1980s

The school will be supplying “CHOOSE LIFE” T-shirts for the boys and we ask that you supply comfortable long pants (jeans). Girls will be supplied with bright coloured skirts and tops but will need a black t-shirt for underneath the top and leggings for under the skirt.

Filming will be on Friday December 9th and a link to the videos will be available (all going well) sometime in the following week so you can organise an OPENING NIGHT with your friends and family. Students are most welcome to wear their costumes to school (except for what the school is supplying) on the day or alternately, they can change at school.

Thanks for your support,

Katrina Hood

Preparing for Christmas

Could parents please support the school in ensuring lollies and various types of gum do not come to school. With Christmas just around the corner, if students are wanting to gift candy canes with Christmas cards, this is best done after school, at the end of the day. This much sugar is not suitable everyday food and is not necessary for class time (as canes are a food that students do not finish in a short space of time such as recess). Along with students handing out lollies/gum to their peer group recently, both can cause division and upset between students, and it is best left for after school and weekends.

Of course, it is still quite okay for students to celebrate their birthday by bringing a packet of something to hand out. This is done with school approval and under the supervision of the classroom teacher (usually also given out toward the end of the day).
